    soaked almonds can be taken for good cholestrol..
    5 almonds in the morning is good for increasing good cholestrol and also it reduces bad cholestrol.

    hi virilevisu, is almond's skin to be peeled off after soaking in water? or can it be eaten as such along with water? how long should it be soaked?:help

    Try this diet.Sure ur cholestral will come to a control.
    Boil 4 or 5 pods of garlic along with dhal. If u r ,ur family likes garlic means all of u can consume.Its easier if u pressure cook it. Eat all the 4 pods with lunch daily ,Do this for 45 days.Then check ur cholestral.Nothing wrong intaking Badam,it will have a good taste if soakedin water.Nothing wrong in eating with skin ,naturel fiber is the
    skin.Donot get panic.Donot eat rich foodslike pANEER,ICECREAMS ETC.bRING DOWN UR BAD CHOLESTRAL.Do take the prescribed medicines too.

    Of course by now u will be knowing how goodis walking excercise.avoid lift,use staircase if u can.but without luggage or weight in hand.

    Hai,

    Cholestral can be controlled well by dieting itself. Remember before taking any food first know the calories in that food and the ingredients in that. Avoid taking food outside. Eat high fibre foods and low carbohydrate foods. Take sproutted cereals, skimmed milk, skimmed butter milk (which we can prepare in home itself), salads, Green tea / Black tea without sugar. Avoid the foods made of Maitha, White sugar, Bakery products, deep fried, Junk foods. Green tea is very good for health. Whenever after finishing the diet drink a cup of hot water. Be brisk and think positive.

    Hi Everyone,

    My husband had high ldl and low hdl. He was also overweight. We started both exercise and diet altogether. Now within 8 months he lost 10kg.Now he is slim and fit. The cholesterol level is also under control.
    The following things we did:
    1. we control and reduce the amount of food intake.
    2. adding lots of green veggies and fresh fruits(not high calorie fruit)
    3. instead of one cup of coffee we drink oats(without sugar and less amount of salt if needed)
    4. adding flax seeds in any form( as powder form with hot water/hot milk or with green salad).
    5. having green tea daily atleast one cup.
    The main things we did is increase the exercise. We bought a cycle for him.
    exercise will definitely increase the hdl and decrease the ldl
    Along with all the basic thing as avoiding the fatty food and the carbohydrates, if u follow these things, definitely u will get a good result.
    we experienced good result.

    Hi Shambu,
    I am a dietician and i would like to try me best to help your friend.
    To avoid bad cholesterol and to get good cholesterol follow these tips:
    Avoid simple carbohydrates like refined sugar, sweets, rice and high amount of starchy foods like rice, refined flour, egg, dairy products, bakery products and meat. He/she should really maintain a strict diet pattern.
    No snack food, fast food or excess non veg food.

    Have whole grains and fruits, foods which contain high amont of omega-3 fatty acids are good sources of "good cholesterol"...those include fish(salmon), soya oil,flax seed, olive oil, virgin oil,halibut liver oil, garlic, walnuts, soy beans, kidney beans, tofu, pumpkin seeds , green leafy vegetables (like lettuce, broccoli, kale, spinach and parsley), citrus fruits and so on..

    Include more fibre rich fruits and vegetables (preferably steamed)

    If he/she is smoking or drinking tell them to avoid it as smoking and drinking reduces the good cholesterol levels in the body.

    Walking, running everday is the best form of exercise to burn fat(cholestrol) along with maintaining a healthy diet pattern.

    thank you so very much for your reply :bowdown..... unfortunately couldn't log on for past 4 to 5 days bcos of tight schedule...

    as regards my friend's probs, she is following your proc.. almost 90%... she uses garlic daily... but can't substitute rice.. she eats before 7.30 PM or 8 PM at night and that too mostly only curd rice & rasam rice... she eats fruits whatever is cheap on a particular day... her nature of job is walking...

    one thing i wanted to know is whether the stress can decrease good chol & increase bad ones? bcos she has lot of stress in her daily life...:drowning

    Dear shambu,

    Yes stress is also indirectly related to most of the health complications . If she has lot of stress, she can practice meditation or yoga if she has time. Walking or any other form of exercise in a calm/peaceful environment is very important (walking/working in office is a different thing). Early morning walks are the best.

    Tell your friend to cut down her fat intake. Its not necsessary that she should have onlly curd rice and rasam. She can have other healthy, low fat food ..chapati without oil and include sabzi's (coconut should be totally cut down), ragi balls, broken wheat etc. Avoid non-veg (if she eats non-veg) completely till the cholesterol levels are normal (can have fish like tuna and salmon as it has good amount of omega fatty acids required to raise the level of good cholesterol).
    Lifestyle changes are very important after certain age (especially when you have health problems).
    If she's overweight, she needs to loose her weight first so that her BMI (Body mass index) comes down to normal range (19-24).
