I got my periods yesterday.Feeling so low and depressed for no serious reasons.I understand it is just the hormones but still i hate this feeling.
Hope many of you have come across this and still undergoing this.
    My question here is;
    i. How can we overcome this.
ii. What all can we do to keep our self happy during those times.
iii.Especially working ladies have no other way to divert other than concentrating in work and that becomes more stressful sometimes.
iv. Or do we have to take them silently and be patient.

    Dear Ramya,

I am also in the same boat..............Depressed feeling and mood swings during periods are so common.....Sometimes i am able to overcome it but sometimes not..........Sometimes it hurts if DH and other family members ignore us during this time.

    1. I try to eat healthy at regular intervals since early morning (helps overcome fatigue and weakness).
    2. Listen to my fav music (it really helps in boredom).
    3. Do minimal stressful work both at office and household chores and take noontime nap (feel fresh and relaxed).
    4. A short walk and fresh air breathing will also help a lot.

    Dear Ramya:

This is not something to worry and almost all the women go through this every month. If you visit a doctor, he may prescribe antidepressant medicines, which can give you good effect. However, Yoga is one such alternative way to beat the depression blues with out the use of drugs. There are plenty of breathing exercises and postures which can help you manage depression in a better way. Viparita Karani, Fish Pose, Lotus pose are good for depression.

Ofcourse you should not practice this during menstruation. Over a period of time one is bound to see the visible difference.

Apart from this, as Anu mentioned, music therapy is also good to beat stress and depression.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards.

many ladies face such PMS due to harmonal changes. There are various ways to reduce its effects. Some of them are already suggested to you. Here is a nice support group. http://www.indusladies.com/forums/gynaecology/82903-pms-supportive-group.html where people share what they suffer from and how they tackled it etc. Hope it helps you.

Good food also lifts up the spirit. Talk to someone whom you feel will make you happy, treat yourself on such days with a cool hair massage etc. Have plenty of fruits, sufficient water intake. Avoid fried foods. Listen to music or your favourite programme or engage yourself in a hobby. At work place if you are allowed to hear some cool music at the background while you work, a plant on your table, your near & dear one's photo will change the atmosphere.
