    CELEBRITY SHORTCUTS

The very word celebrity reminds us of the popular personalities in the field of entertainment. It is not easy to entertain people and it takes deep rooted passion and hard work.

But there are those who take short cuts to become a celebrity.

Presently, one takes out her bra and becomes a celebrity. The other one paints herself nude and becomes a celebrity. The next one announces to run nude if India wins the Cricket World Cup.

Men are not behind. There are many cases of controversial rouges that have made it big in reality shows just because their nuisance value increases the TRP of the channels.

Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan come to my mind instantly who was the darling of the channels who aired Swayambers for them. Rakhi made herself known by daring outfits and Rahul by his drug addiction.

Nonetheless, they claim to be celebrities and media promotes them as such. Recently a man jumped on a stage and slapped the anchor for wearing skinny clothes. He got his 15 minutes of fame. Some through shoes or black ink at politicians and gains popularity,

We now live in times of showmanship or show-woman-ship. The more vocal, unconventional and arrogant you are the more are the chances of your being a celebrity. True such celebrity status may be short-lived but it is enough for raw young minds to be motivated and imitate them.

It is not that in the future we will be deprived of true celebrities. There always will be some genuinely hard-working men and women who will do something to benefit society. It is the role of media to present healthy trends and promote them rather than gaining cheap publicity.

Then there are other kinds of famous personalities, I will not call them celebrity. They did not even want to be famous, forget about celebrity. There were times when something extraordinary had to be done for society at large. Right Brothers had to risk their lives to give us the pleasure of flying. Graham Bell had to spend sleepless nights to make communication so easy by inventing the telephone. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had to abandon the legal practice and let the whole world know that freedom could be earned by non-violence and Satyagraha. History is full of such celebrities who did something special for humanity. These celebrities are in all fields: Art, Science, Culture, Literature, Politics, Industry, Education, Administration, etc.

WEIGHT brothers. Lot of people had no clue that they will remain famous for centuries. I don't think Shakespeare wrote his plays for posterity but to entertain a contemporary audience. But his fame surpassed his lifetime. Lot of litterateurs are like that. When Dante wrote his Divine Comedy he didn't keep posterity in mind. Now if you read it you need a whole lot of footnotes to understand his work because the reference ti contemporary Italian politics and society are beyond the level of an ordinary reader.

    Thanks Shri Balajee.
Yes those were different cases. There are many today who do what they do for they like to do and not for the wah wah of anyone.
And there equal numbers who do to be limelight 24x7.

    Dear Hariji,
Real celebrities never declared them as celebrities. They did what they wanted to do and what they are passionate about. So they remained in our memories forever.
But the fake ones you described.....do you really think them as celebrities? Nobody thinks so. tThey are eccentric, crazy and crave for popularity which is very short lived.

That is why people resort to short cuts because it takes a good amount of hard work to become a celebrity. They enjoy their a few hours of glory. The media, particularly the TV and digital help them. They do not even mind to pay for it.
