Hi Friends, One of my friend and neigbore here,in NY, has found a job like an assistant to a dentist...something like front office desk job... she will co oridnate by answering calls, fixing appointments, directing patients etc,...she is going to get paid in cash..something like 12$ per hour..and daily she needs to spend some hours there..... i was wondering if this is a legal job to do? will she not land in trouble? i would myself like to do any such job,if i find an oppurtunity...so,wanted to know details... she found this job while walking across from that street....they wanted help and she offered herself:bonk does anyone has any experience/knowledge/info of such jobs??
Hi Neha, Yes it is illegal to work while on H4. It could mean a lot of trouble to both the employer and the employee, if found out. However I do find lot of employers paying cash to such employees and getting away with it..and ofcourse the H4 person will eventually get the work-permit and will work legally then. Its a huge RISK. So its entirely upto the person and the employer to take that kind of risk, imo. Jaya
First, keeping H1/H4 stuff aside, the original job is illegal, if the employer pays the cash and not issuing any payment document(at least a receipt or 1099). Now coming to H4 stuff, if you are doing any work, which is earning you money, you are immediately illegal on your H4 visa status.
