Hi The fact what Anjali said about buying power of indians is entirely true. The Mexican, Spanish and even Italian are entirely new and sought after food right now in India. The food items what Blondie had suggested should sell out good in the Indian market. Even a simple thing like Kraft grated parmesan cheese is not available . We have to look for and select items like this. We can think of nutritional products like whey/ soy protein powders/protein bars. If you need any more suggestions or help regarding i will be more than glad to help anybody. Even an online store in specialised food products will be great. I can provide and arrange logistical support. jay.
Jay, you brought up the possibility of an online store. What is the attitude among Indians when it comes to using credit card on the net??!! This I am not sure. Can you give more info abt Indians in India using online stores ? Can you give some examples of online stores that are popular in India? Abt introducing new products in India - how about Peanut Butter??? A very healthy snack for kids and busy moms would love it. Anjali
Hi Online stores are aplenty in India and I'm sure people are getting comfortable of using their credit cards. And in India we have system called Cash On Delivery(COD) which is the solution for online credit card usage anxiety. There are many online stores almost all Internet bigwigs like rediff, sify, ebay have stores and apart from that Brick and Mortar companies like Big Bazaar, Landmark and one of my favourites Fabindia have online stores too. And about the Peanut Butter almost 2-3 brands of it are available in various stores. As said before we can think about Spanish and Italian food items . Off subject we are also into Software and we have created an application catering to the US health care industry. Our office is in St.Louis and we are looking for somebody who can do sales on commission basis. Do u by any chance know anybody ? jay
Sorry for the delayed reply. If people are comfortable using online stores then great. Nothing like it. If come across someone who might be interested then I will let you know. But, at present, I do not know any one in St. Louis.
Hi I would agree with Blondie instead of US try other countries closer to india it would be more cost effective. and the indian palette is very different then those in north america I would say a "brand name" would do much better ( with indians having the prestige issue) And defintely a lot of research must be done since almost everything in the west is coming from the east it would be interesting to see the west going to the east just my 2cents Gurmeet
Hi Jay, Excellent Idea!!! If I may suggest, you can also research into the demand of these products in India. There would be some people who would try it once it is available, but you need a steady demand for getting into the venture. You can create a questionnaire and circulate here, and we can all respond. From my side: I like the pesto sauce and love the fresh pasta with fillings. I donot mind spending some extra every fortnight for enjoying a good home cooked Italian meal. The same meal for 2 at a good Italian restaurant would cost me Rs 1000/- per meal All the best to you. Regards Yamuna
Won't it be expensive because of dollar ruppee conversion. I would say we should find some place in India which deals with this and collaborate with them
