BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER:

My father had this saying show me your friends and I will tell yourcharacter, so he would guide explaining how to make good friends who could influence your life for the better.

In my experience the best are not good friendship material, just being friends with them is never going to pass on that gene of intelligence or will it, may be during the school and college days it is easier as live reference but their taste need not be so, another thing you need to have something to meet the other, like whether intellectually if you are below average it is definitely not going to give you friends from a better form, every time you make a move you need to see if the level is somewhere nearer to accept and give.

During my school days I had a kamala prabha who used to come first in class and I would love to be her friend, but then reality hits you and she is not going to accept except for a light hello and go away, sure that enlightenment needs to be worked at and not got through hi and hey. She is a gaenacologist today.

Friends need to be picked to have a mental rapport, and somewhere we pick the right ones who understand us and we are able to retaliate without excuses, to see agreement coming our way. My notion has never been show me your friends but we seek the one suitable without our knowledge and fall into place and make good ones, with whom you can be yourself, and I rather have one such soul rather than a great gathering and a great pomp with a large crowd. It is always birds of feather flock together…sunkan

    Dear sunkan,
The one common thing for the birds is, the sky. As long as they can fly, sky is the limit, literally. And so is friendship. Even in friendship, it's become like assessing and analysing the person's worth before we want to make friends with them. We are not ready to accept them as they are, rather impose our expectation on the other. But i am glad to say that i was never like looking for best person to be friends with. friendship is a common ground where anyone can catch anyone, as long we know to cling to the other without expectations. In my school days i was recluse and reserved, which didn't leave me with many friends, but coming into college changed me. If the other person respects our feelings and friendship we should be ready to do the same than judging them.
I have this very bad habit of getting away from the topic. Hope this is relevant.

    you are quite right padma,

let me tell u something here, do you know once i make a friend and i ask the dob invarioubly it is the same no as me, and i find it funny how i am drawn to it, and for expectations dont we put up with so many people, in our life, opposite attract so even i have been a loner, all my life, with so many family responsibility and very private kinda person so did not make much friends but i love the intellectuals who can set me thinking after a conversation not the idle gossip of who ran away with whom kind, so very interested in computers for 35yrs now, and have seen different stages, love to feel that i have a window opened after a chat from a friend, that is the basic expectation many a time this does not happen, still we do seek and never rest until we have someone who would agree with whom you can relax, and more the twilight zone of life you want some like minded person not the putting up kind but some one with whom you can be you...sunkan

    hi ma'am
:iagree with you...intellect should not be used as a measure to choose your friends. because for all you may know, the ones who are so-called less intelligent than you maybe the one who has most concern for you. i have exeprienced that. there used to be a group of girls i used to hang out with, we all were in the first class. no doubt all of them are intelligent, but when it comes to being there when you need someone to talk to or a sympathetic shoulder. they were not exactly there for me (though one or two were). the ones who were with me were the girls from a lower class.they listened...and they appreciated me for who i was...
sadly, i have lost contact ever since i came to australia...but i'm still trying to get in touch with them...

    regards,

    Dear Sunkan madam,

Your write-up is interesting. I am reminded of another proverb similar to this which is ' Water finds it own level ' or ' Can you split water by using water? '.

    Regards,

    hi ma'am,

no worries.the word usage should not be the matter.it is how the meaning is conveyed that matters.

Hi Sunkan, sure only 'birds of a feather flock together' otherwise how can they fly and live together!
Same applies to humans also--leave alone flying.

Though we have many people we are friends with different views and goals. Its always the birds of the same feather flock together.... that you need to support you.
