    Dear Chitra,

Words fail me! I am amazed at the patience and interest you show in helping everyone. Thanks for all the above links. I shall make a note of them. You know, most of the time I do not have the patience to look up a particular dish and go forth and cook the way I usually do. I have a load to learn from you and don't think will ever catch up with you. But it feels good to be looking up to you to make a path!

    My dear Seetha !

I think using Kerala red rice for idli & dosa will result in a mini-disaster !
I use that only for veum arisi adai & thanni kozakkattai.
    Love & regards,
    Chithra.

    Dear Chitra,

    I have a question regarding wheat halwa(thirunelveli).
iam planning to make halwa tomorrow. if i measure the ingredients in cups is it 1:4 ratio of wheat and sugar? 1 cup is 240ml, right? how much of boiling water for this cup measurement?

    regards,
    kodi.

    My dear Koti !

I just now went & measured by volume.
250 gms wheat rava is by volume 2 *200ml cups - flat
Sugar 250 gms is one heaped 200 ml cup + one 50 ml cup.
Water you can measure in 200 ml cup.
The measuring cups we get here are 200 ml.
I hope your doubts are cleared.
    Awaiting you F b !
    Love & regards,
    Chithra.

    Thank You, Vandana

    Dear Vandhana,

Thanks for the reply, your suggestions are all too good ! I will check the Pithale receipe that you have mentioned.

What sort of dry subji's do you suggest, let me know what you have in mind ?

Try chapati with Kadhi - Can you please give me the link to this receipe ?

Thanks once again for the reply, I will try out chutneys and thogayals, My hubby doesn't prefer kootu too for chappati, so I ruled it out as an option !

    Love,
    Preethi

    Chitra, Am Loss of words...

to tell you how I feel seeing your reply.

All I had asked for was only suggestion for some side-dish, you have not only give me enough and more variety of dishes as an answer, but also the link to access each one of them. I can tell, you have greatly helped me in saving my time, by sacrificing more of your time to simplfy my job.

I am really moved for all the effort u took for me Chitra. I shall try all these receipes, definitely for all the trouble u took to find them for me and give you my feedback then and there.

    Thanks a ton !

    Love,
    Preethi

    Dry Subjis

    Dear Preethi,

Here is the link to the kadhi recipe:

    http://www.indusladies.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10261&postcount=51

I leave out the sugar though, as i don't like the sweetness. As a variation, instead of adding red chilli powder, you can grind green chillies and ginger and add, it gives it a different flavour.

Dry Subjis , here is a list of what i make:
    1. Aloo gobi( cauliflower)
2, bhendi masala 2 types ( one with onions and tomatoes , and one without.)
    3. Cabbage/peas/carrot mixed veg
    4. french style beans with potaotes
    5. baingan bhartha
    6. Simple peas masala
    7. plain cauliflower or cabbage stir fry.
    8. green chilli( or capsicum ) sabji with besan
    9. Alu methi dry subji. ( sometime I substitute the methi with other greens)
    10. Different variations using potatoes.
Here are some other gravy dishes that go well with chapatis:
    1. suffed capsicum or tomatoes.
    2. Mirchi ka salan ( i think ms C has given the recipe
    http://www.indusladies.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7867&postcount=66
    3. Sarson ka sag: this recipe given by me.
    http://www.indusladies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=516&page=2&highlight=sarson

Hope this gives you lots of options.

    Vandhana, Thanks Again !

    Dear Vandhana,

Thanks for the long list of receipes, I guess with both your good suggestions and options and Chitra's list, I should have no problem selecting side dishes for chappathi hereafter !

I shall look into your receipe of Sarson ka sag and start making all of these dishes one by one, to avoid monotony !

Thanks a lot for all the effort, once again !

    Love,
    Preethi
