    hai dr preetha
i am 30+ I had many problems in my teeth (in teens)

shakeness and bleeding were there in my teeth (down middle teeth) in my age of 18. now no shake at all.
my upper teeth go over my lowers but were straight.
i had no gap in my front teeth. i have gap (from 19 years) in up front (side)teeth. then i went to dr. and he cleaned my teeth and put removable clip for 6 months. but little bit reduced....before marriage...
after 6 months again gap.... after marriage i went to dr. repeated aforementioned procedure. but no improvement.
i visited another dentist, i have been going to regular scaling once in a year when i go to india.
brushing two times a day. After scaling, within 3 to 4 months again deposits...still i have yellowish teeth, deposits, gaps between teeth. but more gap inbetween front and side teeth, to be straighten upper teeth. i am not having confident smiling as i have a gap in front teeth. (between front and side teeth).
i tried 'oiling pulling' for get rid of deposits, yellowisih teeth. no use at all.
now i am trying baking powder for teeth whitening.

what should i do? pl. advice for above mentioned problems.

    regards

    vibusha

    Vibusha,

First of all what is " oil pulling " ?? I didnt understand that part.. :bonk

Second, since you didnt have gaps between teeth since birth it doesnt look like a orthodontic problem which requires braces.. Though sometimes it can be corrected through it.. Yours seems more like a Periodontal / Gum related disease to me. Since you complain of deposits accumulating quickly and shaky teeth earlier.

I suggest you see a Periodontist who is a Gum specialist. He / She would treat you correctly. Maybe a small surgery which invloves opnening the gums up and cleaning the entire root side of the tooth would help prevention of accumulation of bacteria and depeosits in that form.

Also, the bone gets decreased and eventually lost when the roots are uncleaned and this causes space / gaps between teeth. So, please visit a Periodontist as nothing at home will work well for you till the problem is removed.

    Vibusha ,

At your age, braces treatment will have little success. I suggest, for you, to visit a Periodontist and get the gums and root treated first. Be on a maintainance period. Wait till your bones and gums are healthy enough and then visit an orthodontist to get your overbite checked.

For your kids, i suggest, you wait till the older one is 11 or so.. by when all of her permanent teeth would have erupted, then you could take her to an Orthodontist and get the overbite corrected with a braces treatment.

Similarly for the younger one. They both must have inherited you. So, they need a correction at the right age. Some treatments are available right now too.. But could turn expensive and a little uncomfortable for the kiddos. So, at 11-12 years, they are quite matured and " want " to look good !! :) That is the trick !

    DrP,

Suggest a good way to get a whiter teeth. Will avoiding tea/coffee help in this? Suggest a home remedy.

Depends on " how " discoloured your teeth is. It is untrue that ONLY WHITE TEETH IS BEAUTIFUL. The colour of your teeth must go well with your complexion. Having a fair skin and white teeth will simply make one look weird.. A little yellowish suits well.

So, if there is a discolouration in your teeth, the reason needs to be known so that proper " treatment " can be advised.

I can instead tell you, what can be done to prevent discolouration of teeth -
Tea / coffee doesnt disclour teeth IF ONE SWISHES/ GARGLETHE MOUTH WELL AFTER DRINKING THEM.

Drinking aerated / carbonated drinks regularly will cause loss of enamel over a period and make the teeth yellow

Incorrect brushing will also discolour the teeth, again because you rub the enamel the wrong way !

Improper maintenance of the teeth and eventual deposits of tartar on teeth will again result in unhealthy and discoloured teeth.

    Smoking, undoubtdly.

So bottomline, visit your Dentist every 6 months regardless of wether you notice any problem or not.. Get the routine scaling ( cleaning ) .

To be precise to your query, if you tell me when and what kind of discolouration you have or have begun to notice.. I could help you more..
