I have recently started a garment business everybody from the buyer to the courier fellow asking for TIN NUMBER. I am not able to locate what is it? Anybody is aware of it? From where can i get it? How will it affect my business? My friens says if we take TIN NUMBER our business can be tracked.Is it true? Is it good to obtain it? can i work without TIN NUMBER? I am facing problems in my delivery as well as procuring things. Please help.

Having TIN number from the local Commercial Tax Department is useful for Local purchases and Inter-state purchases, if obtained along with CST. This helps easy while making Final assessment for the business run by you. It is also easy to pay online tax with the help of TIN number and easy for the assessing authorities too... (I was working in Comm.Tax Department for a few years, and hence I cud reply here). Sorry for poking my nose here... Thanks and regards
