The Oscar jinx that has dogged Indian filmmakers continued as Deepa Mehta's Water, a Canadian entry, lost to Germany's The Lives of Others in the foreign film category.

    Hi
The story of Water is rather outdated and very region specific. It would be very difficult for a modern westerner to comprehend the pathos in it. So no wonder it did not win.
The winning entry, Lives of Others, is more immediate and universal in content because it tries to understand how anyone deals with ideologies.

Lets hope for better luck next time , when some India- connection wins !
