An ode to your best friend

As for me, though I have had good friends at different times, I never had one that matches my description of a best friend – fiercefully friendly and mutually dependent like what aminroop has shared!
I could trace one long lost school friend who used to be quite close, but now she's become too formal whenever I call and share our old memories. Worse still, had a group of college friends. Most of them are busy with their own lives and not interested in keeping in touch. And the one whom I considered closest among them - whenever I call, the only topic from her side goes like - hey I bought a diamond necklace, we got this, got that and everything that can project her status. I am very happy for her and I do have many to share too - but hey that’s not the thing about friendship right? Where have all the heart to heart talks gone... or am I expecting too much? On the other hand, I have some good friends at work, but I am like a sounding board for them to vent. I am more than glad to help them out, but when I want to do the talking - they're gone!

Actually I started this thread, as I wanted to hear from whosoever those are living my friendship dreams:thumbsup

What a nice topic. Made me nostalgic about my closest friend - actually we call each other "soul sisters" because I think she is one of the few people who have always accepted me the way I am, with all my positives and negatives. We met while we were pursuing our PG and since we both are "obsessed with perfection" and have a set of "uniquely mad tendencies" I think we understand each other very well. When I met her, I actually did not like her much - but then we became best friends! We live in different countries now and while she is not yet married and is busy with work, and we do not get to talk or meet that often each time we catch up it feels like we have always been together.
I realized the value of my friend once I moved to the US. I did make a few friends here, but most of the people wanted to be friends with me because they wanted something out of it. Someone wanted me to take care of their baby, someone wanted to help me with their potluck, driving lessons, doctor appointments, dressing up etc. I just felt that nobody wanted to be my friend because they liked spending time with me, or talking to me. I slowly cut these people out of my life because it was just getting too hurtful after a point of time. I now realize that you do not need many friends, just have one quality good friends is good enough. I think with age, we also get more selective about making friends.

sooooooo nostalgic!!!....

i have 4 friends...one from my intermediate college with whom i stay in contact every other day...we both made our numbers free as she is in UK and i am in US...

the other 3 are the ones i made in my professional college years...they are the real heroes for me!!..they are my knights in shining armours!!...i am sooooo pampered by them and i do the same to them...its like if i have a fight with my DH,my inlaws issues,my conceiving issues,my problems at my moms place...literally anything in this world...they are the first ones i call...just their silence over the fone listening to my issues gives me that mental and emotional relief and my head clears and it becomes easy to understand their advices later..nevertheless,my family hates them,my DH hates them because they feel i am way too much attached to them!..my family/DH literally think we are lesbians :rotfl:bonk....i dont blame them..because,with them,words are not necessary for communicating the problems i go through..just my call and my voice and all of them are right there..bang on!!after i am soothed down by them..then later i call my mom then my siblings and let them know what had happened..lol!!though none of us are in the same country,and dont get much time to talk over the fone either as all are busy with their professional and marital lives..but whenever any of us needs a friend even at 4 a.m in the morning,u bet,they are there..every single time!

they are the ones who have stood by my side when we had domestic problems,my marital problems..i have soo many things to say about them..cant control my tears while writing this down..but only one word to their unrepayable grattitude is 'THANK'S GUYS'.

What a delightful forum I am simply loving this. Thank you admin and maroon to have come up with something like this. My best friend, my neighbor actually the closest person to me. She is not my neighbor anymore once we got married but we sure are the closest (touchwood) till date. She is expecting next week and am super excited I'd be the baby's God mother What a proud moment

A neighbour doubling up as a best friend - sounds awesome. Too bad you aren't neighbours anymore, but sure you would stay best friends for life.
