this year we went to india and had last minute booking like few days before. Prices were outrageous. It was last minute plan to visit india. So I thought of prebooking for next summer. I am stunned by the fact that prices i paid for last minute were couple 100$ less than prices I see for 8 months ahead. that is crime.

We booked very late in summer ( this year, 2022) so that could be another reason for few $$$ less. However it was still way expensive than precovid years which i understand.
Someone suggested if you prebook that are cheaper but i do not see that.

Has any one noticed that spike in ticket prices for next year? Should I wait.. any predictions?

Ticket prices are high everywhere. Lots of people traveling and less flights. And summer is a peak time for travel. You can take a gamble and wait or try to book a refundable ticket. I always book through an agent so it’s easy to make changes.

I generally used to prefer the air india nyc to delhi. or nyc to mumbai. FLights are less after the schools start mostly. BUt summers are generally expensive anyway. I am one of those rare people who like their palak paneer & rice.
You would have lesser prices which go via dubai/qatars with a 20+ hour layovers. Fine to have a short trip in between though. BUt if you have any reliable agent who can save well, then thats ok too but I have knew anyone like that.

Looks like its in the $1300s - $1700s from where I am, sigh :(

Are your prices normally in the $800s for you ( and even going to $700 in the off-peak season ? )

Precovid we used to go and book per needs - like some event in India etc. With no school or less family members, did not plan much. Most time, we book just few weeks ago.
Not like many people who know 6 months ahead.
Now around past 3 years, kid started school and did not go in covid.. and started knowing school season + summer + flight trends.
So normally we would pay like 1100$ for flights, easily. Also now number of flying members have increased :)

Summer tickets have always been significantly more expensive, even before Covid. This is a reality faced by everyone during the school years.
The pandemic and corporate greed have just made things worse.

How do we book through the agent? Do we need to look for local agents in our city for booking tickets?
