    Hi,

I need some legal advice. I will definitely consult a lawyer but need ILites views on this.

Can a single mother (divorcee) give a girl child for adoption? The divorce has been granted but there is no mention of the child in the divorce papers. The child is in mother's care now. Should the mother get a document from her ex-husband that he is giving her the right to give the baby for adoption ot forfeiting fatherly rights or something on that lines?

What precautions should one take while adopting the baby to avoid legal hassles in future?

Thanks in advance for your views, opinions and suggestions.

In USA it would be illegal to adopt out a child without both parents consent unless the court has given specific allowance due to one or both parents being unfit (in some substantial way). Lot of steps and expense would be needed to do this.
