It was a sports stadium. Eight Children were standing on the track to participate in the running event. * Ready! * Steady! * Bang !!! With the sound of Toy pistol , all eight girls started running . Hardly have they covered ten to fifteen steps , one of the smaller girl s slipped and fell down , due to bruises and pain she started crying . When other seven girls heard this sound , stopped running, stood for a while and turned back , they all ran back to the place where the girl fell down. One among them bent, picked and kissed the girl gently and enquired ' Now pain must have reduced' . All seven girls lifted the fallen girl , pacified her, two of them held the girl firmly and they all seven joined hands together and walked together and reached the winning post. Officials were shocked . Clapping of thousands of spectators filled the stadium. Many eyes were filled with tears and perhaps it had reached the GOD even! YES. This happened in Hyderabad [ INDIA ], recently! The sport was conducted by National Institute of Mental Health . All these special girls had come to participate in this event and they were spastic children . Yes, they were mentally retarded Challenged . What did they teach this world? Teamwork? Humanity? Equality among all? Successful people help others who are slow in learning so that they are not left far behind.
Hi saraswathi I was touched by your post and wept when I read about the attitude of the mentally challenged children. Yes.. they are special, cos they possess golden hearts filled with mercy and the spirit to reach out out to a distress call.:bowdown On the other hand I am sure that if it had been a race conducted for normal children nobody would have bothered to take a look at the hurt child, instead rush to reach the winning point ASAP.bonk Regards Honeybee
Saraswathy, This is a very good lesson for all of us. In today's rat race we never think of anyone else except us. Roopa.
Hi, I have read this earlier... We have to learn a lot from these kids... They show the true love and affection..... Great....
hi Saraswathi, I too read this somewhere else. But thank you for bringing it to IL. You made me pause and ponder. There is more to life than winning. In India where we have "dont touch me, I'm pure", "dont talk to me, I'm rich" attitude, these kids have mentally challenged us with a gesture of humane nature. :hatsoff I'm So Sure atleast a few of us will take up this challenge and reach out to the needy. Regards, Sharada
Hello Saraswathi, Thanks for sharing the incident. It shows how naturally caring and considerate these children are. This should serve as an eyeopener for the other so called hi-fi "normal"students who don't care a damn for any body else other than themselves. I wonder now- what is "normal"? Regards, Abha.
