    Hi friends,

I have a beautiful 3 years old child. 10 months back I got pregnant with my 2nd child and at the 12 week sonogram got to know the baby died in the womb at 7 weeks. I had not miscarried naturally so I was given an option of D&C or inducing miscarriage at home. I induced it at home. Then 5 months later I again got pregnant and the same thing repeated. I have lost 2 pregnancies the same way in the last 10 months.

Has anyone gone through the same situation ? Below are my questions:

    1. How many months should I take a gap before trying again ?
    2. Should i stick with the same OB/GYN or change to another after 2 losses with them ?
    3. Should I be consulting any other specialists other than OB/GYN for the next pregnancy ?
    4. Any idea what measures I should take for the next pregnancy ?
    5. Is there a chance that I will succeed in the next one ?
    6. Would i be required to take bed rest for next pregnancy atleast the 1st trimester ?

I would appreciate your valuable input.

    Thanks.

    hugs to you...
i was in ur situation 7 months back....when i went for 9 weeks ultrasound, doc told baby stopped growing at 8 weeks...i was heart broken and i never heard anything like this..so me and my husband were clueless what happened... actually i took 3 months gap and continued taking prenatal..got pregnant after 3 cycles of trying so far its going good....

even i had a same doubt and asked doctor too, she says there is no prevention method for this...it happens randomly....

this time i am in full rest till now..i dont think this is going to help but just for my satisfaction i am in rest....

have u tried karyotype test?( checks for reason to find out miscarriage) but most doctors will do this test only after 3 consecutive miscarriages...

please give some gap for ur body to heal....
    try again with full hope...

    Hi,
It sounds that there was external pressure on womb. When you come to know pregnant avoid sex for sometime.

    hi mom 2 be!

hope you are coping up good now!!...i too had a missed miscarriage with my first one,its been 5 months i dint conceive yet...i will try to answer your questions as constructively as i can!

1.did your doctor say you how many months gap you should take before trying?..if not consult him..for some people, they can start trying ASAP..for some it is advisable to wait..it depends on how far you were in your pregnancy, because that is proportional to the amount of blood loss and endometrial shedding...so for now, just continue with your prenatals everyday without fail!..since you have had 2 back to back pregnancy loss,i would suggest you to wait for atleast 2-3 months before you start conceiving..this will give time for your body to heal and be healthy next time around!

2.stick with the same ob/gyn...because its a missed miscarriage..the doctors too cant predict this...it happens when there is a chromosal abnormality during fertilization.,95%of the times in first trimester.

3.maybe if you want, you can have your checkups done at a university hospitals, where there is a broader spectrum of facilities available for genetic analysis...even at individual clinics they send the specimen for analysis..genetic analysis is indicated only when there are 3 consecutive miscarriages..but consult with your present ob.gyn on this too.

4.for every pregnancy being conceived irrespective, the risk of it going for a missed miscarriage is same every single time..so you cant do much about it..it is the body's defence mechanism by which it recognizes the fertilized egg to have genetic mutations and decides to end it.

5.yes,there is equal percentage of possibility that you will have a succesful pregnancy next time as it was for the first one.

6.taking bed rest depends on your mental satisfaction..if it has been proved about cervical incompetence etc which usually happens later in pregnancy and a stitch is given, then the doctors ask for bed rest..apart from this ,the normal routine can be carried out in limit.

hope everything works out the next time around..till then stay healthy!

    Appreciate your response.

    @ Subaganesh,
Can you please tell me how far along are you now with your pregnancy and what measures did you take in your 1st trimester and have been taking so far in this pregnancy ? Both medically and personally ?
Once you got a home pregnancy test did your doctors see you right away and perform blood tests?

    @ Renut,
No I did not have any external pressure on the womb as far as I remember. About sex, well my DH and I pack that up for entire 9 months and until later after delivery. I just find it safe that way and also that I think would be the last thing I think while pregnant J

    @ Pooja,
The reason I was thinking about changing doctors is because my present OB/GNY’s office policy is to see a pregnant women only at the 13 weeks. They do an ultrasound at 10 weeks but do not do any blood tests or any thing at all before 13 weeks. That is frustrating me coz I think it would have helped if they would have seen me earlier in pregnancy and got the blood work done so if there were any issues with the pregnancy harmone levels then they could have treated me for them. More so after having a miscarriage already they should have taken care for this one is what I feel.
I am not sure how others doctors office policy is. I believe they see patients early.

Yes, I am scheduled for blood tests with an infertility doctor. My GYN asks me to take 2 more cycles gap and start trying.

The interesting thing is, this miscarriage of mine was so different than the before. I hardly bled for 1 whole day and passed may be only 2 inches of tissue and its been a week now I am only slightly bleeding each day. For the previous miscarriage I had passed so many tissues and clots all night and kept bleeding well for 1 week.

    Thanks.

@mom 2 be-well over here they usually see the patient late,as first trimester miscarriages are very common..so they see the patient only when they feel the fetus has become viable..and first trimester miscarriages are 95% of times from chromosomal abnormality...so nothing can be done about that..no blood tests or hormonal therapy will change the result for chromosomal abnormality..but what you can do now is,since you have had 2 consecutive miscarriages, you qualify as a high risk pregnancy canditae..so ask your doctor to call you in based on the past miscarriages...i know that they call the patients late for first check up..but at my clinic its not the policy..its just more advisable..so ask your ob/gyn for this...if he says no..thn if you feel unsatisfied mentally and emotionally, switch your doctor!

for the bleeding you are having presently, please get yourself checked up with a doctor if you have any left over products of conception..because these cause, adhesions which lead to pelvic inflammation and scarring..these can cause endometriosis/sepsis,which inturn decrease the chances of becoming pregnant drastically..so better ask your doc to do a pelvic exam/tv scan..that is a MUST!...keep a watch out for increased body temperature, increased frequency of lower abdominal cramps, pain while using the washroom..

    MOM 2 BE ,
i am 14 weeks pregnant now..i heard baby heart beat by 12 1/2 weeks...hope everything is fine now.... when i got pregnant second time , before my periods due date i got spotting once and took hpt it came positive so immediately i spoke to my mid-wife , she asked me to do blood test and after 1 day gap again one more blood test to check whether HCG levels are raising or not..luckily it is raising.... but i did not meet my doct till 7 weeks.... by 7 week appointment i had ultrasound and checked baby heart beat... then again i meet my doctor by 12 weeks...
actually i took 3 months gap and continuously taking my prenatal even though i am not trying.... after 3 months gap i got pregnant in 2 cycles... in that 3 months gap i didnt have IC at all because i read in net that it may cause some infection..(i am not sure how far its true, just for precaution i did)... after i got positive HPT i didnt have IC... i am full rest for the entire time..just simple cooking...DH takes care of all household chores...

Not sure if it helps.. But be aware of any family history of such cases. one of my friend had a miscarriage and only after that her mother revealed she too had one. She has a healthy baby now. She took some gap..maybe 6 months or so.. depends on your age as well. in india they say dont have papaya. but you can generally try not to over-exert yourself and eat well. as they say prayer and positive thinking will also help.
