    it took me a full day - starting from baking until completion of decoration. It wsa sponge cake and chocolate cake alternatively.

    A simple syrup is normally used to make spreads and can also be used in cocktails.

    Its nothing but 1:2, Water:Sugar.

    1 cup water to boil and add 2 cups sugar and stir until it all dissolves. Just leave it on fame until sugar dissolves and remove from heat. If you wait too long, it will start to crystallize.

    this is normal sugar paagu in our language ... Fine if this will help in melting effec , then i shall try this too :)
    I saw in a site it was used as a spayer over the layer cake before each layer is kept.

    Its called glazing Chamu. Normally when we make fruit cakes and decorate the cake with fresh fruits, we glaze it with simple syrup to mask any bitter fruits, should there be any. Even on top if you spray this syrup, it gives a really nice look...the cake kinda shines.
