    Hello ladies!
One of my friends says that phulkas roasted on direct gas flame are not safe to consume. Is that true? I have been making phulkas this way (placing them on the tawa first and then on direct gas flame to fluff them) for years. Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks and cheers,
    shanti.

    Dear Shanti,

After reading your query, I did browse the web to see of any alarming warnings about cooking on direct gas and did not find any. I think phulkas have been done on direct gas by thousands of us from the time gas came into the kitchen. Even in the western countries, barbecuing is done on direct gas and little gas pistols are used to flambeing etc.
Hence, I would not worry too much about it.
    Happy phulkas to you!

    L, Kamla

I do prepare phulkas sometimes this way.i have seen many housewives do the same. There is no harm in that.I have seen a wire mesh of sort for phulka frying in some shops;haven`t tried it though. It is kept in the burner & phulkas are put on them n cooked.

    Hi ladies,
Phulkas on burner is good as long as there are no black spot- ie too much burnt phulka. It has carbon and not good for health.

yes, phulkas can be done on gas stove no problem... only they should not be allowed to burn too much black...it becomes hard and also it is not tasty...

    Dear Jayanthi
if you know how to make puris, you will be able to make phulkas. The dough is without any oil, but not as hard as the puri dough, now roll it out and put
it on the tawa or griddle to cook. Change the side after a few seconds, when you
feel that the second sde is also done you canagain change
the side or put it on the burner and it will balloon up. it is ready to consume.
    Hope this helped.
