As much as I like adding grated coconut to my dishes, I have been avoiding it because I hate grating. The store bought shredded coconut are not the same. Any suggestions on doing this. I have tried the two below and each one has its own disadvantages or
The grating is hard for old folks with butter fingers like me. I use knife to take out curved slices coconut first. Then i chip out the fine brown skin from their edges. Then gather the white slices into The mixie jar and for less than a second switch on the mixie with lid held tight on to the mixie, you had finished the grating. God bless
@Thoughtful, as I dont get fresh coconut, I buy frozen coconut from Indian stores. Try ' dailydelight' brand. Thats the best. After eightmonths of my right ankle fracture and avalanche of health issues, finally started driving my car. May take a year or more for recovery, but being independent makes me happy. Grateful for the support from my family, friends and colleagues. Looking forward to spring time.
I'm thankful for South Indian diet. It is so easy to make it healthy without making too much effort. It is so unforgiving about adding or eliminating any ingredients. Aroma of powders, freshly cooked sambhar, hot rice everything when consumed in limitation is so fulfilling .
Agreed in toto. One can minus and plus the quantum of ingredients too. Less chilli still sambar is tasty. Less hot. Still rasam is heart warming. As we cook our south Indian item entire home is replenished with nice aroma. But it gets marred at times with nasty smell emanating from adjacent flat kitchen when the lady of that house cooks mutton in pressure cooker of fry chicken in deep frying g pan!
Had my blood test and finally saw the cholesterol ratio falling down from 6.6 to 4.8 (below 5 is normal) with modifications in diet . Feeling grateful that food is the best medicine . Although my bad cholesterol is pretty high I hope I can bring it down too with changes in my diet.
மருந்தே உணவு உணவே மருந்து is an aphorism in tamil meaning Food is to medicine ( tonic or elixir) Medicine is food .
Got a small Turkish coffee pot to make my tea. I love this mini-pot since it is brushed stainless steel cleaning is so easy. Love useful kitchen utensils/vessels. Joys of life
