    Hi OP..
    I completely get your point..bcoz you had a tough time with your inlaws and DH..you have this thinking that all inlaws are like that..bossy and imposing..spoil the life of young generation and whst not..look at the situation from a neutral viewpoint..your mother is not wrong..if all other things are fine ..DIL or for that matter MIL can adjust according to each other when situation arises like in this case in front of relatives..but yes MiL not attending reception bcoz of Dil insisting to wear a particular dress is a bad gesture..it points to a severe egoclash in future.

    Thing about freedom is that, every individual feels to each his own. Yes i do agree that everyone is different and unique, but by being a strong woman it means to understand the essence of things.

    Lehenga or saree, more than that what matters is the life after marriage, the adjustments and many other things which comes along with a marriage.

    Sit down, talk and discuss about the dress, food, photography, location and make sure to have a transparent discussion and am sure things will be easy.
