whoaa..... I'm reading on Faux news that someone has come forward to say he had the encounter with Dr Ford, not Kavnaugh. Wow.
This whole thing is a charade that will not yield anything. Odds are BK will be confirmed and we will be left wringing our hands. I read a comment elsewhere today about the potential consequences of Kavanaugh being on the SCOTUS and the reason why the GOP is in such a rush to get him seated. It broke me out in cold sweat. I had to physically walk away from the computer to regain composure. I'll find it and share it here.
Quoting in its entirety, comment by a redditor: "This is one of the prime reasons they want him confirmed ASAP, they know their end game is up... Orrin Hatch let the game plan slip today The Utah lawmaker Orrin Hatch, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, filed a 44-page amicus brief earlier this month in Gamble v. United States, a case that will consider whether the dual-sovereignty doctrine should be put to rest. The 150-year-old exception to the Fifth Amendment’s double-jeopardy clause allows state and federal courts to prosecute the same person for the same criminal offense. Within the context of the Mueller probe, legal observers have seen the dual-sovereignty doctrine as a check on President Donald Trump’s power: It could discourage him from trying to shut down the Mueller investigation or pardon anyone caught up in the probe, because the pardon wouldn’t be applied to state charges. This means Kavanaugh's primary mission it seems, was to eventually allow for Trump to pardon himself, and the GOP co-conspirators on state AND federal changes. This isn't about Roe V. Wade or whether a siting president should be indicted, etc, their long game is much deeper."
Forty-three Republicans have pledged their support to Kavanaugh. Eight GOPers remain undecided. They are Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine; Bob Corker, R-Tenn.; Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.; Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.; James Lankford, R-Okla.; Jerry Moran, R-Kan.; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; and Ben Sasse, R-Neb… Report: Eight Republican senators currently undecided on Kavanaugh
She's definitely not lying or making up things, and seems sincere about the reasons for the timeline of her actions - not going public, sending letter, and later. Feel very sorry for her. Can't imagine the pressure of going live on TV. Grassley and Feinstein were business as usual, but Ford has brought some solemnity. Hope something good comes out of this, some long lasting good.
