    Al Jabal al akdhar.

This rises to a height of 2,980 metres and is famous for its wide plateau close to the summit. The journey from Muscat to Al Jabal Al Akhdar takes about two hours and can only be undertaken by four-wheel drive. We can travel in our normal car from Muscat and rent a four wheel drive in jabal as well.

We went in October2011, it was very nice to visit the mountain and its old valleys. You need to have A four wheel drive vehicle to drive the mountain from Nizwa. There is a Police Check post at the starting point. Only five persons allowed to travel in four wheel drive.

Al Jabal Al Akhdar is known for its Mediterranean climate. Temperatures drop during winter to below zero Celsius, with snow falling at times, and rise in summer to 22 degrees Celsius. Due to its location and unique weather, the Green Mountain produces a variety of fruits, such as apricots, plums, figs, grapes, apples and pears, as well as almonds, walnuts and saffron. The pomegranate that grows here is classified among the finest of its kind in the world.

Spread across the mountain are many Omani villages. Villagers have dug terraces in some parts of the mountain for growing crops.
It is part of the Al Hajar Mountains and located around 150 km (93 mi) from Muscat.

Again we visited this place in last Jan, when some of friends visited us form Dubai, but the mountains and the orchards were not very green. The ideal time to visit this place is in the summer ( july - August). Then you will see Pomegranate, Apricot and Walnut trees all green and with fruits.

Jabel Akhdar is known for the best promegranate fruit & is also famous for its Roses, rose water and honey. You can visit all the small villages and terraced farms. People are very friendly .

We were in Oman for my DH's short assignment in 2011 mid. The first time to Oman was a second honeymoon for me as immediately after marriage, DH took me for a small holiday as he had a lot of friends there.

Oh you were here in 2011. Hope you might have enjoyed the trip. Quiet ambience in Muscat not alike India few people enjoy it and few feel bored. I am just loving it.

Rightly said Manju. A very peaceful, quiet place full of bright-colourful flowers in contrast to India. I just love this country for their beauty and calmness. And many thanks for giving such details on this wonderful place.
