    hi Vjpranu,

i dont know about place in NJ as i dont live there . but yeah can help u in little other things like decoration nd theme.
MAIN thing is your budget ,like how much u wanna spend ,as in such parties ,if u spend lavishly thn u have lot many things to ur list .so i dont know about ur max budget so will suggest basic things.
as u have a boy , so go with blue shades. u can get name of ur baby on balloons if its possible for u ,it looks nice,u can use balloon archs and even air balloons which stick on the ceilings .u can use ribbons to decorate walls .
as its first bday of ur baby, giv such return gifts which children can keep for long time . nd even their parents lov it like small photo frame etc

right now this is only coming to my mind , anything else if comes ,i will share with you.

    enjoy tc

I know the feeling as i went through the same.
It all depends on your budget.
Pick a theme your son is aware of, new character could overwhelm him.
You can go for winnie the pooh, backyardigans or just a blue star/ball party.
For more ideas, just hop in at iparty or any near by party store.
Make a list of things you need, here are some:
    order a cake
    Party hats
    party rattles
    balloons
    ribbons
birthday banner - Dollar shop is cheaper than anywhere else
    birthday table cloth
dont forget the number one candle
    Return gifts :
Books (my kids always enjoy recieving books as return gifts)
At the age range you mentioned, every kids would love to take home a ballon
Any alphabet learning toy or magnets would be useful.
Blue or pink balls would make a nice return gift too.
    Games for kids:
At that age range, the attention span is small so quick games like throw the bean bag in hole.
Run to mommy first or pass the ball would be fun
    Games for parents:
pinata (if the restaurant allows) or pop the balloon would be fun
Dont forget the guest to sign their wishes/blessings on birthday wishes frame or card.(its a valuable keepsake).

    vjpranu,

for newly weds , i got them chocolates... lindt packet ones , tjmaxx you get them for $5.49. looks rich too.
and smaller kids, i get goody packs from party city and mix them with chocolates from costco.
depending on your budget and party theme , you have many options out here.
do visit party city or similar stores, you will be amzed at the options available.
also , if its a restaurant party , they provide many facilities including decor..do check with them
enjoy the first bday party preparations and celebrations.
    take care.
