But I cannot recollect the complete song. If anyone knows, please let me know. thanks!
Hi Mythili, Swagatham. I am so happy to see your post and I hope it grows into a thread full of traditional Malayalam naamajapams. I do not know this one, but will try to get the lines. I have neighbours- both over 65yrs from Trivandrum. They might know it. I got a casette for traditional Sandhyanaama japams and enjoyed playing it. Now learning Anjana Sridhara. Welcome to IL! Enjoy your time here. regards Vidya
Thanks Vidya! I grew up in my mothers home in a joint family. I cherish those memories so much!. Every evening, all the kids and ladies light lamp and sit infront of God for NamaJapam. It is such a part of my growing up and I feel so proud of it. I feel it is a major force that united the members in the joint family. Everybody sitting together and singing the songs in the same eenam (tone?) and praying together. What else could be more uniting! We children were not allowed to play during that time - we would wait impatiently for the hour to be over I pray your Trivandum neighbours know these verses The song was many pages long, I just know around the first 30 or so lines.
btw Thanks for the welcome to IL. I just discovered the site few days back and regret not knowing about it sooner! Wonderful sites and hats off to all the wonderful moderators and members who run this site. I strongly feel the tremedous power and energy of Indian women right here!
Mythili, I am so enthused by your thread. I have trying to learn traditional naama japams over the past few days. These days, the music shops are choked with tapes on naamajapams- all new creations. While I am humbled and awed by the devotion and talents of the creators of these new songs, I stick solely to old versions. In that quest, I met an astrologer lady from TVM who told me of Anjana Sridhara. Luckily, my neighbours gave me a tape by Arundathi and I am learning it. I will surely check out the japam mentioned by you. I will try asking Arundathi, since she knows a lot. In the meantime, can you post one of the traditional nama japams you sang as a child. Even Malayalee families say that they are losing those songs. BTW, am from TVM too.
Dea Mythili, Welcome to I L & this forum. I am not a Malayali; but the following is chanted in the Mahalingapuram Guruvayurappan Temple in Chennai, in the evenings. Ammae Narayana Devee Narayana Lakshmi Narayana Bhadrae Narayana I think this is one of the most beautiful nama japams & I just love it. Love, Chitha.
Yes Chitra, Ammae Narayana is truly remarkable. I have so many favourites, its hard to choose few. Here is one .. I just picked the lyrics from Shyju.com > Naranaayingane Janichu Bhoomiyil Naranaayingane janichu bhoomiyil Naraka vaaridhi naduvil njaan Naranaayingane janichu bhoomiyil Naraka vaaridhi naduvil njaan Narakatheenenne karaketteedenam Thiru vaikkam vazhum shiva shambho Marana kalathe bhayathe chinthichal Mathi marannu pom manamellam Manatharil vannu vilayadeedenam Thiru vaikkam vazhum shiva shambo Shiva shambho shambo shiva shambo Shiva shiva onnu parayaamathalle Maha maya thante prakruthikal Maha maya neekkeettarrulenam naadha Thiruvaikkam vazhum shiva shambho Shiva shambho shambho shiva shambho Valiyoru kattil akapetten njaanum Vazhiyum kaanathe uzhalumbol Vazhiyil nervazhi arulenam naadha Thiru vaikkam vazhum shiva shambho Shiva shambho shambho shiva shambho Eluppamaayulla vazhiye kanumbol Idakkide aru padi undu Padi arum kadannavide chellumbol Shivane kanaakum shiva shambho Shiva shambho shambho shiva shambho --------------- Kani Kaanum Neram Kamala Nethrante Niramerum thanka thukil chaarthi Kanaka Kingini Valakal mothiram Aninju vaa unni kani kanman this is another popular one. And I am sure you would have heard of Harivarasanam. Sri Hariharathmajashtakam It is recited in Sabarimala every night before closing the temple doors. There is also a translation on this web page.
Dear Mythili, Thank you for posting this Panchakshara Namajapam. I have this on tape too. I have not been able to get the words of Namashivaya Pahimam. My neighbours dont know it. But I hope to keep trying till we get it. Namajapams are my petrol these days. Do you have any traditional ones on Ayyappan? What lost treasures these have become. See you round. regards Vidya
Mythili, Sorry, it is me again. I checked out the link you have given. It is very useful.Thank you. Pls check this one out too. It has many Malayalam stotrams (the nama japam genre). Malayalam Devotional songs / stotra lyrics The site itself if a treasure house of Shiva stotras. Has gems like ShivanandaLahari in Tamil, English and even Malayalam, I think. regards Vidya
Hi Mythili, Thank You for posting the japam. I just love this namam though I have not learned it. I used to hear daily from my grandma and did not bother to memorise. Now I feel that I have found a lost piece... Once again thanks,
