    Hi,
I am looking for some advice on where to buy gold coin in the Bay Area. Also if you can suggest any particular type of gold coin it would be great. Ultimately the plan is to sell the gold coin to buy jewelry in India at a later date.
Thanks in advance for your time!

We used to buy canadian maple leaf coin. You can check US bullion exchange website. These days, taking gold coins to India has become a hassle. Even if you make a bangle and take, they are stopping. Last year we had to pay $100 to customs in bangalore for 2 coins. After that we stopped buying coins. So check with your friends who took recently.

If the purpose isto buy jewellery later I wouldn't buy gold coin from US. This is more for investment where you can sell later and make some profit. If you want to buy jewellery will it be cheaper to buy in Dubai or some seasonal period in India where they don't charge money for labor and wastage. You can check the cost in kitco and buy the cheapest 24K gold since you are going to convert them into jewellery.

Thanks ILUser07 for your input. It looks like customs rules are stricter now. Will check around with friends and see if they were successful in taking coins.

Thanks Mangai for your input. Buying the cheapest 24K gold surely makes sense since I will incur the labor and wastage charges anyway while making jewelry.
Regarding buying in Dubai, I have heard that Dubai has really good designs. However, most of the time I only travel via Dubai and never leave the airport. Do you have some input on whether its a good idea to buy at the airport? If not, which stores would you recommend? And about how long would I need to allocate for such kind of shopping assuming that I will not be buying anything more than 3 pieces of jewelry. Bottom line, I don't want to pay anything extra for customs, etc. Looking forward to your inputs.

    FYI.
I browsed the forum on Indians settled in Dubai. Got some more useful information. But need quite a bit of planning in order to buy from Dubai where supposedly you get the purest form as stated.
