My tod turned 18 months and I want to start potty training them early. Anyone have experience with early potty training and tips and tricks? My goal is to get them to be fully trained by end of next year, when they will be about 2.5-3yrs. The earlier I start is best for me or I will fall into a lazy routine with the tod and end up training them late next year.

Second question, is I am still using infant tub, where tod is sitting in it, and bathing her. Any advice to teach them to stand and I can bathe her? She can completely walk and stand and run by herself, and she is outgrowing the infant tub but refuses to stop using it, cries and screams if I stand her up in shower. We tried a few times to give her bath in shower. Any tricks will be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Once the child is old enough to understand potty training takes a week or two. Then another week or so to reinforce it. That's all if you want your child fully trained by next year, save yourself and your child the trouble and start next year. Until then, I'll suggest you stock to nappies.

About showering, nothing like about change of place. When you go on holiday or visit friends / family on over night trips, give the shower with no tub. Then put away your tub when you return and continue

I can't give you advice about potty training, but I can tell you about the showering. At a point, when I got too lazy about giving my son a bath in his tub, I carried him with me to the shower. He hated it at first, but now he thinks it's not bad (still hates the water hitting his head though). It does take them some time to get used to the shower, because the water pressure might be too fast for them. I also have a detachable showerhead, which is helpful, when the kid isn't cooperative. I also have a little plastic stool, for him to sit on if he wants to.
I also started using the normal bathtub for baths around 15 months. I just filled it a couple inches deep and let him play with his toys. This can be a weekend only thing, if its tough to do every day, but it helps babies get more comfortable with the space and water. He stands up and explores the area, so it might help you ease your kid into standing.

Regards to potty training, the child has to show inclination and signs of readiness.Else,it will be tough on you and your child.Best age to start is around two and a half years but depends.

You can start by taking the child to the restroom every one hour.

There are shower caps for kids which you can use.Let the child sit in the bathtub and shower him.

    Hi OP,

I think this is the perfect age. Her ped would also suggest you same. Unless kid is willing. One thing I noticed, change always worked for my kid with potty trainings or showering in Indian style (w/o tub). Like we visits India, no shower tub there, we somehow manage by explaining and she starts same way. Similarly about potty trainings.
A 18 month, you kid will learn fast. How much trained she is? She goes pee poo both in diapers? Bring portable potty seat ( one is like you can keep anywhere and another one is ring shape you put in adult potty to narrow it).
Once she gets comfortable, she would hate to go in diapers.

About bathing/shower, we put a stool (like Indian style) and fill a bucket. Give her soap bubble or play toys. You can ask her to get up, turn around to wash up completely. When I switched to bucket bath, I felt tub was convenient, but now I feel it was such a pain to fill whole tub, clean kid body parts, then again after work of tub.

You can start potty training in full mode when she is around 2.5 yrs.

I will never recommend taking showers or baths with your toddler sons/daughters however young they are. Being nude infront of them is a strict no no in my books. Please don't try such advice. Always take baths and change your dresses in a separate closed area. It can cause psychological affects on young minds.
