@yellowmango, Congratulations on the third baby! What a rejenuvating weekend. Keep us posted about the fledgeling's progress.
aww..so cute... YM I think it is a tailor bird chick. See this pic... looks similar to yours. Google Image Result for http://orientalbirdimages.org/images/data/tailor_bird.jpg when we were kids there used to be lots of tailor bird nests around this time of year. Dont try to put it back in a nest.. I remember the mommy birds would smash the egg or push out/peck the baby chick when they saw us kids put it back.. If you have a vet in your aquaintance or building you can ask them for pointers. Or just take it to one of the vet clinics I am sure they will help you.
you have done a good thing by bringing it home ... why dont you call blue cross and ask for suggestions? ...
Ok ladies...the latest development. The bird hardly ate(or it is just the mother in me that thinks so) but was not happy. By night ,it was flying enough to fly on to the shower curtain and towels(I gave it a home in the bathroom as it was too big for the shoe box). Early morning I went to look at the same place. Looked around for 40 minutes but could not find a nest.I still persisted and just walked around that area keep my ears sharply open for that bird sound. Just then one of the boys came towards a bushy hedge and said...aunty our ball is in that hedge....if you find it let us know. I was looking for the ball and the birds in the thick bushy hedge when I looked up and saw a birdie exactly the same as the bird I had in the bathroom. I called up my husband and he suggested that I leave the bird around that bird and watch for some time. So I put a marker twig near the place I saw the baby bird and rushed home. Gave one last feed to the baby ,wiped it with wet tissue (the food had got on the hair under the neck) and took it there.I found the other chick and placed this chick near that chick. They sat quietly on different twigs....often dozing off. I sat close by keeping guard..... Then I saw two birds that looked like the adult birds .One looked like male(I am assuming from the slightly darker hue around the eyes and beak like the beak...as in sparrows.)The other looked like a female. As the birds drew closer....my baby along with the other chick started chirping loudly. The adult birds also responded loudly. The areas is quite crowded in the morning with people walking around and the birds would fly off every time some one walked by. I stayed close by for about half and hour ...most walker went home. Then these two birds came closer to that bush. For some time there was no action. Then there was lot of movement in the bush.I was so scared...I didn't know if it was acceptance or rejection.I stayed away as I didn't want to startle the adult birds. Soon they flew away. I waited for 30 seconds and couldn't help but rush towards the bush...and there I saw the most beautiful sight ever. The two chicks were sitting snuggled to each other on the same bush ...almost like they had been pushed together by the adult birds. I called up my husband...he told me to stay for a while and if things stay the same....leave the chick there.Last I saw ...they were snuggled together in the thick bush dozing off. I have taken some picture but I was so excited ...most of them are out of focus.I am a bad photographer at the best of times.....but pathetic one when excited. I have kept the camera battery for charging....will go back in an hr to check again.Fingers crossed. If I get better pictures...I will post, otherwise I will post the bad ones only. Hope this is a happy ending for both the chicks.I am exhausted but so relieved.
Sandhya...this chick is big....too big for the nest but not yet strong enough for flight. It is strong enough to fly short distance in the bushes. Both the chicks looked content and safe. That area has cats...but they can't get into those bushes. I had asked around and there is a couple who have birds.....but they keep them in a cage so I didn't take it there.I was planning to call them up to ask for a vet if this didn't work out.
I couldn't wait for an hour.Went back with the camera. The two babies were dozing on close by branches.....sat for a while.Took a few pictures. My baby(identified by less fluffy neck area where the hair /feather was wiped by me).....looked around...did a big poop and dozed off again. I am assuming it ate something ...it pooped on my hand earlier too. The adult birds were around too. Will post pictures after I give my human babies breakfast. Will try to stay away and not draw attention on them now. Will probably just check on them one last time in the evening.
