i am so sorry to hear that
    but everything happens for good
rather than seeing child born with defects and suffering of child i guess that was a better option to go for abortion

Hugs Anoop. Prayers with you for a healthy child.

You will have to take a break of three months, just relax be mentally prepared, once you experience peace that's the right time, take folic and drink lots of fluids, eat well during your next pregnancy. The same incidents do not occur again. After a m/c even I thought the second one would be the same, but when I conceived I did not have any problems and was blessed with a healthy baby girl.

Take care and rest for the moment.

    hi anoop
hope you r doing good. How was your holiday trip?how was ur new year celebrations?Think you are busy with your house
construction.Due to bad weather I just restricted myself to house.I started my work today after a long holiday of nearly 25
    days.

I am very sorry and lots of love for you dear.I know the pain loosing the baby.
As lavii said better to follow doctors advice instead of having a defect baby from which you and baby will together suffer after birth.
This is the same situation one of my collleagues had.She is aborted in 16 weeks by injectins pains and she suffered alot.
but now she is carrying a very healthy baby and her due is in may.
So never think wether ur second one will also have same problem. As we will have such thoughts i gave u an example.
drinks lots of water, take ample rest, ttc after 3 cycles..
I wish you all the best and see u soon in mommies club.

Low amniotic fluid at 23 weeks

    Dear Ladies,

Saturday after the doc's checkup; i came to know a sad news tht my amniotic fluid is low. I have been advised some medication and drips.

Can you kindly tell me about serious this condition is? Have anyone expperienced this before; what are the risks involved. My fluid index is 11. Doc says it shd be more than 16. Any advice on this is very much appreciated.

    thanks a ton

Re: Low amniotic fluid at 23 weeks

    Hi Sniv2000

    Congradulations on your pregnancy....

I faced the same condition during my pregnancy...i used to drink lot of water, juices ,buttermilk etc ctec...but wen i was in my 7th month, doctor had warned that my AFI was low (6-7)and she advised me to take rest ,asked me to take some glucose like medicine and also gave me drips...
i was working and after this i had taken a week's rest and next week it was fine...later during the 9th month(i was working till this time),again the same prob but this time she said better to do C-section but then i asked her whether somethin can be done...again drips and said that inspite of giving all medicines,ur body is not in state to keep the fluid...it depends on your body...also she asked me to take rest...i went to chennai for delivery but then after goin there,i dint have any prob of low AFI ...to mention i did take the glucose like medicines till delivery and was in rest

So i believe low AFI doesn;t always mean poor intake of fluids...it depends on 2 things
    (1) Ur body
    (2) complete rest during pregnancy..atleast after 6th month

    So i would suggest u
    (1) in case u are working,if u can take leave, please do it and take rest...
    (2) keep taking the medicines and along with that other fluids like coconut water ,fruits that contain lot of water content like muskmelon ,watermelon etc
    (3) whenever u find time,take rest

Please take care of this AFI level...it is definetely a big issue...i am not scaring you but please understand its importance becoz after my delivery i heard some issues that could happen to babies in case the mother has very low AFI(my sis frnd faced this prob) and lof of cases where doctors go for C-section becoz of low AFI

Please take care of urself and be in rest...Keep ur mind calm...dont keep thinking of all these...everythin will become fine
eat healthy and drink more water!!!!!!!

11 is not too bad. Remember this is just an estimate, and values can vary from technician to technician and time to time. avg ard 23 weeks is 14. yours would have to be less than 7 or 8 to get really worried.

Drink lots of fluid and take complete bed rest. That's the key to bringing up the value. drink atleast 1 gallon a day and rest. don't lift any heavy objects either.

    Wikipedia says

Amniotic fluid index (AFI) is a rough estimate of the amount of amniotic fluid[1] and is an index for the fetal well-being. It is a part of the biophysical profile.[1]
AFI is the score given to the amount of amniotic fluid (by adding up centimeters of depth of four pockets of fluid)[2] seen on pregnant uterus by ultrasound. Doctors may use this four-quadrant technique or the "Single Deepest Pocket" technique to determine the AFI[3].
    • An AFI between 8-18 is considered normal[4]. Median AFI level is approximately 14 from week 20 to week 35[5], when the amniotic fluid begins to reduce in preparation for birth.
    • An AFI < 5-6 is considered as Oligohydramnios[2] The exact number can vary by gestational age. The fifth percentile for gestational age is sometimes used as a cutoff value.[6]
    • An AFI > 20-24 is considered as Polyhydramnios.[2][7]

Re: Low amniotic fluid at 23 weeks

    Dear Pavi,

The amount of amniotic fluid is an important indication of the baby's well being. My doctor took a class about delivery and other details during the 3rd trimester and she explained to us that the amniotic fluid is nothing but the baby's urine. The baby urinates in the uterus and that is the amniotic fluid that surrounds it.

If a baby urinates less, then there is a problem (I mean the baby after delivery) and similarly, if a baby in the womb urinates less, then it is a problem. Thats why amniotic fluid is given importance.

My SIL also had the same problem, and she was adviced glucose sachets etc. And, she delivered a full term beautiful and healthy baby. So, dont worry. Donot worry too much. And, inturn just follow the doctor's instructions perfectly and it will all get alright.
