    Dear Kamla,

Don't be harsh on yourself. If I had been in the US for long, if I had not visited US at this age to learn something, I also would have missed the life's lesson from GPS.

GPS essentially talks about what we always call as Plan B. All of us are good at the basic Plan A. But when Plan A fails, the alternative we have is disaster. Like good business leaders we should have an alternative Plan B which should see us through to our goals.

One thing I found in the US is that it is an information-driven society. And psychologists the world over are warning us that most of us are dealing with more information than we can handle. This causes "information-anxiety" a major stress-factor these days.

While we should seek information that would make us lives comfortable we should shun information that we cannot put to use.

Now Kamla, now that Sunitha, Shobana and you have encouraged this, you are going to have a series of lessons like this. I learnt something from my jet lag, from a transportation device at downtown Seattle and something from the Hindu Temple at Bothell. Stay tuned for future episodes.

Kamla, looks like many ILites like to read Varalotti's words but not see him in person. Am I so ugly? Or so frightening?

Vandhana opened a thread for the Bay Area ILites for a meeting on 14th September and there are a very few takers.

    Love,

    Dear Sundari,
That's a good question. A GPS device requires two things. One is permanent connection with and co-ordination with the satellites. Second, even more important , is that the maps should be fed in properly. The names of the streets should be clearly fed well in advance. For that you require a perfectly planned town development.
I don't think we can use GPS device in Bangalore.
    regards,

    Dear Sridhar,

Wow , GPS and Life. Nice interesting twist you provided in your write up, but i do agree with you. Thanks also for provinding us ladies an opportunity to poke fun at our Dear hubbys  . I am sailing in the same boat as Kamla and Shobana too. Although , we still have not got a GPS ( surprising isn't it??) . But my reasoning is we don't travel much by road and when we do , we rent a car with the GPS. But for all local travel, i am the GPS. Anyway, coming to hubbys asking for direction. I really dont know why. They would rather be lost than ask for directions. Same goes for me too, we will be lost somewhere, kids will be screaming in the back for my attention and DH will tell me to calmly get down and go ask the next person on the road where we are. Its like they have forgotten how to talk when they get lost:bangcomp: :bangcomp: .

    Dear Varalotti,

That was a good one........life lessons from a GPS!!!

Coming to the gadget, driving out of town is definitely a breeze with a GPS.......i no longer have to be the navigator with my head buried in the map of which i understand nothing!!! Remember the book, 'why men can't listen & women can't read maps'!

Having said that, it's also important to use one's discretion while asking for it's assistance, like a friend once told us that instead of following the signs to a gas station, they took the help of the GPS & after nearly 30 mins of driving, it led them to the middle of a field!!!

Our GPS sometimes can really get on our nerves..........like suppose we miss the exit or don't follow it's direction.....it keeps repeating, 'Turn back', 'turn back'!!! So we nick named it T.B. Mio Swamy, short for "Turn Back & Mio is the name of the brand!! Ha Ha ha!!!

    Ragini.

That it gave me a break was all that interested me, now that you mention the 'tudes, will look into it the next time round. I will surely see it with different eyes this time I get into the car:)

    Dear Sridhar,
When I read this piece I recollected a story which We were told in our Balavihar classes years ago about Ashtavakra who learnt from Nature. Everything around him was his Guru! An excellent learning process. We not only learnt from you that we could learn a thing or two from everything around us, but also about the Tom Tom. Waiting for your next lesson eagerly. Hope you all have a great time in the Bay Area!
    Regards,
    Malathi

    Dear Sridhar,
good to hear that you are enjoying your learning experience! that was a good one with GPS and life. Here it is called navigation system. We have one with a woman's voice....and in German!(which was set so on purpose, by know whom!) And when hubby starts doubting the way SHE directed him, i calmly sit next to him and say AT LEAST LISTEN TO HER, YOU ANYWAY DO NOT LISTEN TO ME!:tongue

    Keep learning and sharing!:2thumbsup:
