Two lives brutally knocked off. One dead and gone against her will. And the other, a supposedly mound of innocence with his future destroyed for good...

What is this happening? Why are our children suddenly losing their tolerance level? Why are teenagers willing to become aggressive and take the law in their hands and not take the some initiative to do well in their studies or even behave well?

Are we the parents to blame for being careless, caught as we are in our jobs, work, etc?
Are the schools to blame for not being able to mould the students well?
Is peer pressure destroying the goodness in our children?
Are useless, double meaning dialogue movies ripping apart the values that need to be in the students?

When we were in school we had moral science lessons and they really worked because we learnt certain values.
When we were in school our parents or at least one parent always had time for us whatever the situation.
When we were in school we respected the teachers irrespective of how she/he treated us. We gave her/him the right to correct us and even punish us.

Today, teachers instead of students are reprimanded for punishing students. Today, parents smother their children to compensate for quality time which they just cannot give their children.
Today, children's perception of values is lopsided, they just cannot distinguish right from wrong.
Today, the students do not understand the true meaning of life and friendship.

I worry like hell. I worry for my son. I worry for all those little mounds of innocence who are being exposed to the brutal corruption of vulnerable minds in schools, at homes, on the roads, in the cinema halls...

The teacher dead and gone, leaves behind a bereaved family, heart broken friends and colleagues, and many shocked students.
The boy who committed the murder is in jail. His parents,at a loss to apprehend where they went wrong.

    Why this Kolaveri Lord?
Please protect the little souls from mental pollution...
Please guide us on the path of truth and wisdom...

I read this news this morning.. absoloutely shocked!!!...the youth of today haven't been taught to accept being reprimanded in the positive way.. and I truly solely and wholly blame parents and grandparents who are overly protective/ overly ambitious (their kid has to be on the top) and they instill a sense of infallibility in the child and the kid grows up thinking he is a gift to mankind...
very often I've met moms who would accept that their child could ever do any wrong and is he did then it must have been someone else who provoked and instigated!!! on parents teachers meeting day I've seen parents speak with such scant respect to the teachers so what respect will child have for his teachers???..
parents are a role model.. if we don't correct/ reprimand/ scold our child when they do wrong then they go about in this world thinking they are fault - less...

I too read that news in the morning news paper and quite shocked.. Is there any real motive for the killing??? I did not quite understand that..

The teacher lost her life for no mistake of hers.. (even though if she punished him / insulted him also .. killing her can never be justified at any level..)

My heart goes to the boy also, I do not think a 9th Std student is a real baddie and can become a murderer... Whenever he realises his act .. will he able to forgive himself??? and Can ever lead a normal life?? Or does the society allow him to lead a normal life afterwards.. will he be accepted by his people.. will be there any1 to atleast share his feelings /emotions when he realises his act???

(Do not think me wrong.. I unable to digest that jsut a 9th Std boy can do like this at all???)

Really, what is making these children to go to that extent!! we the society & parents failed to teach them morale properly and the kind of stuff that is being propogated in the media as heroism.. (even earlier also such things were there?? but is it the easy accessability / the hype and quantity of such stuff....)

While thinking all this .. Where we are all heading i did not understand??

And also the teacher's family.... For No mistake of theirs.. do they need to pay this heavy price???

    Many issues .. unanswered...

Glad atleast you made an attempt to brought this issue in this forum.. and atleast.. we can think and do something in around us to the possible extent...

    Dear Kelly,

I agree entirely. Parents are not being perfect role models. And I have seen many of them behave the way you mentioned.

I wonder what our children think of us.

Wishing and praying for wisdom to prevail.

    Dear Pallavi,

Really! I feel frustrated, angry, bad and sad all at the the same time.

Yes, it is difficult to accept the fact that a 15 year old child can do that. But then, when my son tells me about the manner in which some children behave in school, this seems a possibility although I would certainly have not imagined a child to harbour so much anger within him to even brutally murder his teacher.

Yes, the boy has lost everything. Even though alive this incident is never going to go away from him life.

May God bless the soul of the teacher and may her family gather the courage to face such a difficult situation in their lives.

    Dear Shail,

What a wonderful take on this song. And a sad subject but a relevant one Shail. Yes teachers being reprimanded for scolding children? Now which teacher in that school or the surrounding ones will dare correct a kid, fearing the same fate as her collegue ?

i agree with u, when u say, we pamper our child, get him an i pad and other gadjets at an early age, bcs we dont have the time for them, to teach them right from wrong. in our times, in the sixties when i studied, we were mortally scared of our teachers, and we were caned many a times by the prioncipal, and we never went home and complained, we were innocent then, the kids of today are spoilt bcs of the exposure to so many things that we were not exposed to then.Who knows we may have turned out like this kid if we were to study today.

Yes moral science was a great subject , we learnt so many things.

Sad state of affairs, shail, my heart bleeds for the family of that teacher, and for the quality of the kids today.

    Regards

    kamal

I too very shocked to hear the news.

I really worry about the future of my kid who has to live and to find a better way as his future.

Yes, we were compelled to respect our teachers but what the society is imposing on today's kids...

    Dear Kamalji,

Indeed, a very state of affairs. And all that you have mentioned about spoiling kids with gadgets is so very true.

It is terrible and I wonder whether the situation will improve. I wonder if the school authorities and parents will take this as a wake-up call and do something fast and drastic...

    before it is too late!

As always, your comments are always looked forward to.
    Nice Day

Shocking is a mild word....it is incomprehable that a 15 year old premediates and carries a knife to school and stabs the teacher in front of other students... just because she was "strict"....She was just doing her job...her job was to give feedback to the parents about the childs performance..and the boy didnt like it. Whose fault is this - the boy's, the parents or the teacher or the education system as such? There definitely would have signals and warning signs of his violent streak ...didnt anyone notice?

In my daughters school, ...normally a topper...this boy had scored only 80% in the semester exam and the father slapped him in front of the girls, teachers and other parents who had come for PTA. The teacher had to intervene and she reprimanded the father for his behaviour...but the boy was totally humiliated and since that day he became this quiet withdrawn child and his grades went steadily down. We give importance to wrong things...we cannot blame the teacher..coz she was doing her duty of reporting to the parent... much depends on the reaction of the parents...what did they say or do that drove this boy to bring a knife to school? Did the school have counsellors? Even if it did have counsellors, were they approachable? So many questions.... in hindsight we can say what is wrong but are helpless to do anything about it....

    Dear Viswa,

Yes, the problem is that the parents are not being concerned. Just imagine! This boy's parents gave him 100/- pocket money EVERYDAY! Atrocious. What else can be expected of a spoilt, selfish brat?
Now, the boy's future is gone along with the terrible bad karma of having murdered an innocent soul.

Yes, I agree with you. Parents are putting too much pressure on their children. They are not allowing the children to bloom naturally.

All we can do is not make the same mistake in our lives and pray for wisdom.
