Mostly with Monsoon, comes rains, thunder showers, lighting, floods, power cuts, traffic jams and that if it is combined with depression and cyclones things get more worst. The condition in the Chennai city right now is almost similar. Everyone in Chennai is humming …….

    RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

    COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY

    LITTLE JOHNNY WANTS TO PLAY

    RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

After the 2015 floods in Chennai, many get prepared for the worst even with little rains. Water getting into the houses, unable to move out and no water, no food & many lessons taught by 2015, made people to organise their houses better &fill with many supplies to meet the demands of the rainy days. so, this list can be helpful to any region of our country to make themselves more comfortable during heavy rains. Let’s check it out…………………………….

    >

Try to avoid buying flats or apartments near lakes &rivers, because when it overflows, the water enters the nearby areas and even into houses in the ground floor.

    >

Try to complete repairs or make overs of the house or flat during summer itself, which will be highly beneficial &that toLeaks and falls can be avoided.

    >

Not to forget about any electrical features &motors for water tanks. Change switches too if they are damaged. Check for wirings &cables also. Get service done for inverters &other power back up equipment. Never forget about the lifts in the apartments. Have candles too.

    >

Individual houses are also can raise their ground level and check compound walls &terrace to water proof before rain. Water tanks too need to be cleaned and closed properly with a lid.

    >

Make rain water harvesting plant in every house hold and without fail check for plants &trees, that too specifically any broken or injured branch in the tree. Immediately cut off to avoid dangerous out comes.

    >

Use mosquito nets or repellents to keep away from mosquito bites which in turn will help to be far away from dengue &malaria.

    >

As soon as the monsoon sets in, get ready with rain coats, umbrella, sweaters &scarfs, socks, especially for children and senior citizens.

    >

Get the stock of basic medicines and other first aid kit to avoid going out during the rain or get the number of the pharmacy who provide home delivery of medicines. Check with your family Doctor about necessary medicines for the young &the old in your family.

    >

At many times the department of meteorology announces the weather forecast and alerts people about the forthcoming rain, make use of this by storing the required edibles in the fridge for the rainy days, so that much pressure &tensions can be avoided. Especially milk &milk powders, bread, biscuits, noodles, fruits &vegetables, many ready to eat items are also available in the market, add them to the shopping list. It will be handy.

    >

Keep in store clean drinking water, if the water filter works on electricity. Make sure to charge the cell phones to the full &use for urgent needs only. Never pass on any wrong information about the weather condition which in turn will make people panic.

    >

Try to help others as far as possible &have local emergency numbers in the contact list. Keep the vehicles in the covered parking area if possible, or otherwise cover the vehicle from rain water entering into it.

    >

Avoid wearing wet clothes and even the ones which are not fully dried. make sure to have many small dresses for children and have the diapers &other sanitary items in reserve.

    >

Its better to keep the floors as dry as possible and avoid slippery tiles &foot wears. Always remember never to buy food from road side eateries and consume the home cooked food within few hours of preparation.

    >

Ensure to have safe &hygienic bath with disinfectant liquid and antiseptic soaps. Use hot water .insists children for hand wash whenever situation demands.

    >

With all these care &caution the rain &floods can be handled in a nice way. BE SAFE &BE HEALTHY.

Chennai is a flat coastal plain, due to which water logging is a common problem. with encroachments, drain blockage, etc there is no way for rain Water to escape. So the foremost problem is lack of power due to the substations getting shut down, fearing electrocution.
Always stock lots of candles and match boxes, along with medicines, milk powder etc. Keep your IDcards in an emergency kit along with torches and charged mobiles. No Government agency will be of any help during such times, and its our own gut instinct and advance preparation which will save you. We need rains and water, but not the problems that come along with it.

Chennai floods were a disaster caused by unauthorized construction and improper drainage systems. Many had lost their lives. Lack of cleaning and dirty water collection became the breeding grounds for mosquitoes. When the water had subsided there was a threat to people for the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya. It was the mosquito repellent manufacturing company of India, Good knight who came ahead and distributed free mosquito coils, mosquito nets to the homeless people. It was a gesture by the company to help Indians fight against mosquitoes for safety.
