what is the validity period that is required in passport to apply for a UK visa?

    hello friends

    my son's passport is expiring by dec 2011.my husband is abt to apply for UK visa in january...so my son's passport will have 11months of validity time..i came to know that for US visa there should be 1yr of validity in the passport so i want to know what is the validity period required in passport before applying for a UK visa..please anyone reply as soon as possible...thanks in advance.
