    Happy Ugadi @sarvantaryamini

Even I dint get neem flowers and mangoes. So I dint make pacchadi. I miss going to temple this year. But as you said God should be in mind, So just did simple puja at home and prayed that let everyone be protected from the virus and let this pandemic disappear soon.

    Hi Shravs,

Ugadhi Habbadha Subhashayagalu. Bevu Bella thindhu olleya maathadi. What a beautiful write up on this day!

While I was explaining the significance of bevu bella to my husband today I told him we will have sweet and bitter moments in life . And need to enjoy both the moments. Unfortunately we are facing one such bitter moment now. But hey this too shall pass and very soon we will get the sweet taste.

I pray that this pandemic meets it's end road soon and you get to celebrate the festival soon with your loved ones here.

I can understand how much you must be missing home on this day. The festival itself was an extremely low key affair here. With 21 days lock down, it was a dull moment.
My aunt who celebrates this festival in a grand manner had invited us (me n hubby for lunch) . As we started from home to reach there which is like a mile away, the cops in the streets stopped us and advised us against our short trip. He pleaded us to avoid getting out. Then we decided that only my husband will go n collect the lunch n come home as I hadn't cooked anything thinking our lunch is there . :( he got all the items you mentioned but what is a festival feast which we eat alone at home without extended family around. Missed the get together feel totally!!

Aahh yes aunt has given obbatina saaru . As you said it tastes soo good the next day. Can't wait to eat it with hot rice n ghee tomorrow. My lunch menu is done :grin:

Happy festival again! And hope you get to enjoy your India trip soon..

    Happy Ugadi @Anusha2917

Yes this indicates the neem flowers in Ugadi pacchadi. Hope very soon we get to experience good time.

Oh that’s sad to know that you were stopped. Anyways the cops are doing their duty. Stay home and stay safe.

Glad to know atleast that you were able to collect the food. Now sit and enjoy the delicious food made by your aunt :grinning:

What a soothing article to read @shravs3 .
I was living those moments through your words. I forgot corona and felt at peace.
You have celebrated Ugadi the best way possible through this write-up, making so many of us happy. If covid-19 is the bevu your writing is the bella.
Let his postponement of the India trip be the only bevu. After the corona spread is stopped, life will be only bella.

    @shravs3,

What a delightful writeup taking you through the memory lane of how you had celebrated Ugadi. I am so sorry to hear that you had to miss the trip to India due to the Coronavirus cancellation of the visas. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon in India so that you could have a great time in India.

We used to celebrate both Ugadi and Tamil New Year's Day. Neem flower is an important thing to consume on the auspicious new year day. Even today, I like neem flower rasam so much and we bring dried neem flowers every time we go to India. Tying the mango leaves at the entrance door is always my responsibility at home. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to go down my memory lane. We used to listen to the words of wisdom on the radio from Sankaracharya on that auspicious day. My school days are in the 1960s and that tells you how ancient I am.

Obbattu is something like Sweet Chapati. It has various names across different regions like Puran poli in Maharashtra, Bobbattlu in Andhra etc

Obbattu saaru is nothing but rasam made from tamarind, water which is used for boiling the toor dal, rasam powder and finally the main ingredient which is the stuffing used to make obbattu. It tastes sweet and tangy!

Here is a recipe of Obbattu for your reference.
