Henna gloss to cover greys and condition the hair
Bring a big cup of water to a boil, add a tsp of instant coffee powder and two black tea bags, simmer for a while till the decoction reduces to half the amount.Squeeze and discard the tea bags. When the decoction becomes luke warm mix with 3 tbsps of pure henna powder in an iron container and let stand overnight.

Simultaneously soak a tbsp of fenugreek seeds in a small mixie jar in enough water overnight.Grind the fenugreek seeds into a paste, add 4 tbsps curds and grind a couple of times till it becomes soft, keep aside for 30 mins to 1 hour. This gives enough time for the fenugreek mixture to thicken up.Whip again to make sure there are no grains left.

Just before applying add an egg to the fenugreek mixture and grind again, this is now a very soft and thick mixture.Mix in the fenugreek mixture with the henna mixture.

Application - Separate the hair into sections and apply starting from the hair roots till the ends, make a bun.leave for 3-4 hours. Wash with cold or luke warm water.Dry the hair naturally.Oil hair before bed time, leave overnight and take head bath with a herbal shampoo the next day. Repeat the gloss treatment once a week or every 2 weeks as desired.

Note - It is always recommended to do a patch test to make sure one is not allergic and use pure henna. My co sil used this and reaped benefits.

I have been dyeing my hair for quite some years now, and Im seriously thinking of stopping doing so. Some function or the other turns up and I dont feel properly dressed, when my hair is showing white strands all over. However at my age, it should not matter i suppose - Im 64 now. So, considering going in for your natural one. Only thing, I do not want to use egg in it. Will it make too much of a difference?

Henna is a natural dye but when used alone can sometime dry the hair, so many people prefer the gloss treatment.

Gloss implies conditioning and moisturizing ingredients such as curds, fenugreek seeds, egg, coconut milk, hibiscus leaves, aloe vera gel and other natural conditioners. You can choose one or few of these ingredients that suits you.Yes you can choose to skip egg and add coconut milk instead.Try it out.

thanks kveena. Shall try it out after a month or so, after the full effects of the dye im already using wears out:)
After hearing of the ill effects of chemical dyes, i feel this natural remedy would be very good, even if the colouring effect may not be complete.

Joylokhi, I was told depending on the kind of chemical used to dye hair previously henna might give a greenish coloration. Try a small part of hair to make sure it looks ok .
Other tips : don’t use hot water to make the henna mix , mix henna a couple of hours before you apply it ( some keep it under sunlight ) . I apply at night and sleep with henna on and wash in the morning. Might be a bit much with the rest of the things added. Try shorter time first. You can also add indigo dye if you want a blacker tinge . I Haven’t tried that yet.
And yes you can omit egg, make sure to condition your hair if hair is dry after the henna application and washing.

Get the 'spray on' colour for the few strands. It is temporary and lasts only till you wash. Or use old maskara to cover the odd strand . This way you don't have to colour the hair just for the few strands or if very little roots are showing.:)

If you are planning to change to henna...make sure it does not have cheap dye. A lot of henna in the market has cheap dye for sure results.

Thanks Sandycandy and yellow mango for the tips. I'll go in for a good popular brand of henna. Hopi g to get satisfying results. I was using Garnier colour naturals and I have no issue with it as of date. But as I said, hearing long term effects could be serious, I think it's time for me to give more importance to health ,than mere looks!

@joylokhi Try to get henna powder from an ayurvedic store for purity, if not you could try using fresh henna leaves/dried henna leaves.I heard nupur henna powder is good.

Hair Color sprays is getting popular nowadays, but they have very bad side effects. Henna, reetha, amla when used together give good color to hair but henna makes hair dry. Try using Godrej Expert Rich Creme hair color that is 100% no ammonia hair color. It colors hair and stays as long as for 20-25 hair washes. It is ammonia free and hence causes no hair loss. This feature - of protecting my hair and covering grey is rare.
