Wish to teach myself to Sew, particularly pillowcase to start.

I have Singer sewing machine from 1990, thread, needle, scissors.

    Do I need a self-healing mat?

What about scissors? Can I use regular scissors, or are there special type of scissors?

Honestly, what supplies do I need as a beginner?

As it is, I'm trying to get bargain fabric to self-learn.

    Thank you!

Continuous interest, some you tube videos along with the supplies that you already have - you should be good to go.
After a few attempts you'll know what new things to try and how to attempt sewing stuff other than pillow cases.
Taking continuous interest is the key.

If you are new to sewing, please try on any waste cloth repeatedly till you can sew in straight lines. If are already adept in using the machine, your decision to try a pillow case is fine. Good luck
