tamil new year - do's and dont's

hi frnds,

i need the steps to be followed on tamil new year - varuda pirapu.

i usually clean and mop the house the day before and on the new year day i got up early and bath and lit the lamp and pray. we go to temple before or after breakfast according to my kid hungry status.

is there anything that has to followed strictly and banned strictly on this day? plz post ur replies.
