Something is wrong!

It was raining cats and dogs when she came near the tea shop. Though the time was only 7.30 pm weather made it appear as if it is deep into the night.

Tea shop owner looked with delight to see a new customer. She must be in late twenties. Her T-shirt and pant were wet due to the rain. Her hands were slightly trembling beneath the black scarf. Water drops were pouring down from her hair.

‘Any mechanic shop near by? My car stopped all of a sudden’ she asked the shop owner without bothering to introduce herself. There was only one customer in the shop who seemed to be enjoying Tea and Hot bajji’s.

‘Nearest shop is five km is away madam. Do you need their number?’ he asked helpfully.

After getting the number she made the call from a corner in shop.

‘They are on the way. I came for my friends wedding. Got struck in rain and now…I wonder how will I reach.’ She said to the tea shop owner and ordered a cup of tea. Owner chatted with her and talked about the murder and robberies happened in the surrounding area. He warned her to be alert.

She was aware of the glance of the other customer on her and it made her uncomfortable. He was smoking which evoked fits of cough from her. She pulled her black scarf tightly around her.

Workers from the mechanic shop came by and said it can be fixed only in the garage by tomorrow. They said they will tow it to their garage tomorrow morning. They offered to drop her in the nearest town and she agreed as she had no other option.

She paid the bill at tea shop where the owner said, ‘Next bus will come in thirty minutes. Please go in that. Two murders and robbery happened in this area in last month.’ She froze with terror and decided to take the bus.

‘Something is wrong! Those mechanic shop workers are fans of my tea. They always have it without fail. I wonder why they didn’t have today.’ Owner said his thoughts loudly to another customer.

‘Might they are afraid of the murder and robbery. Also it’s very dark.. .’ Other customer reasoned out while paying his bill.

He looked at the woman and said ‘Madam if you don’t mind I can drop you at wedding venue. In fact I’m from that area.’

She deliberated for few minutes and much to owner’s displeasure decided to go with the customer.

‘Call me if you need any help.’ The owner said and handed her the visiting card.

She called the owner in next one hour and said she has reached safely.

The Owner breathed with relief and slept well. It rained heavily that night. Weather was clear the next day and the first thing he noticed was the woman’s car parked opposite to his shop is missing.

Something is wrong he thought himself. The garage doesn’t open till 11 then who would have moved the car. He dialed the woman’s number and to his dismay it was switched off.

It must have been around eight in morning when he heard about the body floating in village’s well. His mind went back to the woman and immediately he drove the bike to area where the body was said to be floating.

The body was yet to be pulled from well . Police were chasing the crowd away. They found an empty purse few yards away from the well and were trying to clear the area.

He learnt that victim was a male. Something is wrong! Yes even from the distance he could see the familiar black scarf tied around the neck of another customer who visited his shop yesterday!
