You are a sensitive soul. You shed tears for the demise of zandu balm.Even dummies can make pulao (For instance I make it every Saturday). Sheera, I think the difference is they use milk in sheera unlike in Rava Kesari. As for kichadi it is a close cousin of the good ol' southie pongal.

Yes, I have decided to start making kichadi (instead of pongal) from now on. No need to make sambar/chutney to accompany pongal. (please don't tell me kichadi is supposed to be eaten with a side dish too, because I will cry again :biggrin2:)

I too used to think like you. but after my marriage I was informed that:

    'khichadi ke hain char yaar
    ghee, dahi, papad, aur achaar'.

    Deeps,

Looks good, well presented, colorful and nice enough to eat. I can imagine, how your kitchen looked after you cooked the 'big breakfast'. How does it taste?

    Thanks @saarang

@poovai - Sheera was okay. I liked the taste of khichdi, though it was too mushy :)

@1Sandhya you had to burst my bubble :-( Still, ghee/dahi/papad/achaar is easier than sambar/chutney

    Dear Deepslikes,

Don't know why all that fret?! The end product looks super to my eyes. Even the décor is in place! The anis on top of the pulav/biriyani/fried rice (!!) looked quite happy.

Also I didn't understand why you worried about no salt at home. Your tears were copious and if you were careful enough to collect them, I am sure there would have been enough salt!!

Very lovely and sweet narration about hectic kitchen escapades! Will warm up the heart of many a woman who shed tears to prepare that perfect meal!

    Dear Deepslikes,

    Superfine narration!Yummy preparations!

In 1950s in Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan we used to read'Samayal arai marmangal( Kitchen secrets) with a liberal dose of humour.Even today Tamil serials picturise MIL adding extra salt to Sambar just to demean the DIL. Somehow DIL wins the appreciation of one and all since she would have forgotten to add salt.
