    Hi,
A little details about my kid and us.
He has just turned 5.he was born in USA.
But moved back to India due to some visa issues when he was 3.till then he dint have major interaction with any of kids of his age.
He could only speak English and that too with an accent.
After going to India we stayed In bangalore, and enrolled him in nursery at a nearby school.
Till then he was a very friendly child who used to socialise whenever he met someone ( even if it was a new person). Suddenly he became an introvert and dint mingle with other kids. Became very cranky and used to be very shy when he met anyone else other than few closeones. We thought it was because of his communication issues as kids could not understand his English.
We received a lot. Of complaints from school that he doesn't follow instructions much but he used to read and write well. He has good memory he never forgets anything even after years
Now we are back in USA and he started his kindergarten. Luckly he is exactly 5 as he is born in August and schools started in September. So he was of exact kindergarten age. He came back to his usual friendly self and seemed to be enjoying his school. We have been called by school yesterday and they gave a similar complaint of he not being able to follow instructions at one go and doesn't like to sit in one place but his reading writing everything else is good. But is needing a lil more help from the teacher to understand instructions. They suggested to keep. Him. In preschool for an year so that he gets habituatef to school environment here in USA. We do not want to do so as his 1yr will go for waste, explained our situation to them asked to give him some more time to judge him. They asked for a meet again in 3weeks to check progress.
Can anyone please give suggestions what we can do in this situation. He is very smart as a kid and knows a lot of things that kids of his age do not know. But one thing is his attention span is less and he is not very attentive, looks here and there and seems to be lost in his own world

Few pointers they have given are:
When other kids are going in a line, he gets lost in the lobby, doesn't keep his bag outside class without reminding him.
Needs help for following basic instructions.
But when I observed today when his teacher told him to clean up he immediately kept everything in place in the boxes.
They asked us to make him. More independent at home too and see the progress
One reason I guess he is doing so is because he is unable to catch the fast English accent from. Teachers

Since you moved back to India at his age of 3 , the child may experience it as , for instance , the parent may have lost their job and with that their social status probably also their financial position .It could also be that the parents are rather weak and not able to cope up with life. Like that the child have affected pschycologicaly . This will be the reason . To brief more about it , please tell me , are you working ? And when you moved back.to India his father lost his job ? Or worked in USA?

He does seem to have attention difficulties as both schools have suggested the same..
Go to your paediatrician. Get a referral for Developmental evaluation.
    Is your kid hyper??

Get evaluated by neurologist or psychologist so that you can get a detailed report of your kid. Did you check with your primary physician?

I would strongly suggest you to agree with his current school that repeat his pre school. It will make his base strong and it's always advisable that our child is oldest in his or her class. That boosts his confidence and many other qualities. We Indians push our kids lot beyond their capacity. One year will not be waste, it will be best investment for life. My friend moved her kids from u.s. to India and repeating her kids same grade.

OP, Did your kid attend any pre K in USA before joining K. I think it's good to follow the suggestions by the school. Its better to expose him to the system here. He is not ready for K from your post.

Both my kids waited one more year before joining K (due to birthday date after the cut off date- that gap was only a few days). They were above 6yrs when they joined. There was an option to go to private school and later join in first grade to save 1 year . But we didnt do it. Happy for that decision. Both are doing extremely well and matured for their age and grade. No need to push him too much at this age. He need to be ready for school and enjoy it. Only then he can perform well. In USA, mark's/ academic performance alone are not deciding factor, social and other skills are important for success. So listen to the authorities.
If he is the youngest one, he may face other issues when in high school too. So most people here, wait one more year for their Kids to join K.

This one year is an investment not waste. If he is very smart, he can make up this one year by his performance later in school or college.

Deeply artistic, I understand your worry. I assume he is otherwise doing well because the school has not asked you to get him evaluated for other issues.

    A) If I were you, I would start practicing at home with basic written instructions or pics on a white board. Start with one task to begin with . Then add two or three if he shows progress. I would also repeat the year, so he fits in better with his class. If not, you will run into this problem every year from teachers about him not being on par with his classmates.

    B) Have him watch fun videos focusing on speech and language . There are plenty such videos / cartoons on YouTube. Has his hearing been tested recently ?

    C) Have one on one play dates first and then group play dates , this will help with accents, socializing , interacting etc.

Hopefully repeating the preschool year will make him better adjusted.
