    Hi

I am in Bangalore. I wanted to know the existing rates of house maids-sweeping house, mopping and utensil cleaning according to number of bedrooms and number of family members. We are two people in 3 bhk. Our existing maid always needs a hike. Now I am paying her Rs900 monthly plus daily coffee and breakfast on weekends and some other days(not daily). She still asks for more. If guests come, she asks more money. For every festival she needs extra money. I sometimes feel that I am already paying her so much for 2 member family. My question is -Is her demands reasonable or am I being kindof looted? Should I just change her? I tried once but she dosent leave easily and she irritates every other day to increase her money. I want to know how much other ladies in Bangalore paying??

Re: non-full time house maid rates bangalore

    Hi Pink,

Am also in Bangalore. Maids are asking now a days like per job Rs.400. Am also in 3bhk. Obviously it will be bigger than 2bhk. They don't consider how many members are there. How big is the house and what are all the work has to be done. Only very few are humble. These days if they stay one year itself is a very big thing. They ask according to the area. You cannot satisfy them. What to do?

    Hi,

The payout for maids differ in different areas. The rates should depend on both the area of the house (for sweeping, moping) and the number of people (for cleaning utensils). I used to pay 1100 for a 3BHK and 6 member family. I had agreed on a nominal increase only once a year. And no extra payments incase of guests beacuse they do get the luxury of being off when we are out. And I would cut their salary incase of absence for more than 3 days in a month.

I think you can staright lay down your conditions and tell the current maid to leave if she is not interested. Now a days, maids want less work and more pay. In your case, since you are only two members, the work will anways be less and you should not have problem finding maids.

    -krk.

    Hi vidhu

Thanks for your quick response. You say that if they stay one year itself its a big thing, but mine just wont leave! Mine is average 3bhk with an open kitchen. The work is sweeping, mopping and dish washing. And she finishes the work in half an hour.Within this time she also demands for daily breakfast and coffee.I find that this is only prevalant in south India and not in the north. They make us feel as if its selfish from our side not offering them food but in reality we mostly have a light breakfast of cornflakes or bread. And I buy coffee powder only for her.We are employing them to lessen our work and not to increase some other work.(imangine the pressure to keep breakfast ready for her before she arrives!).Suppose we work in an organization and there they dont provide lunch, then we would carry our own lunch box, wont we? You are right,we can not satisfy them.

    Hi Krk

Thanks for your response.I agree that -"no extra payments incase of guests beacuse they do get the luxury of being off when we are out." I like the idea of cutting their salary incase of absence for more than 3 days in a month. If relatives come, she asks for extra money but do we pay less when she is on leave or we are out! I would not mind giving her extra money if I feel so. But this constant demanding drives me mad and I just feel like firing her and apponting a new one. You say that you increase some nominal amount every year. According to my maid everyone increase 100 rs per year.Is it true? Instead of increasing every year wont it be feasable to change maids every two years or so.
I like your suggestion that I should lay down my conditions and tell the current maid to leave if she is not interested. Thanks.

Bumping up this thread, as I have the same question now.

What are the house maid rates now?

Jobs include vessels, sweeping/mopping, bathroom floors cleaning, washed clothes from washing machine to be put for drying. 3 BHK house, 2+1 family.

Can you pls throw some light on what jobs your maids do and how much they are paid. Do they sweep/mop the balconies? Does vessel cleaning include quick clean-up of the kitchen slab? Stuff like that!

I guess it totally depends on different factors..

    1. Number of people
    2. 2bhk/3bhk - Big/small house
    3. Number of works to be done..
    4. Area

I pay 400rs for Sweeping/Mopping and Washing vessels..

We have Less utensils, Mornings its oats/cornflakes and nights sometimes dh eats in office....

House is very clean as usual, but i prefer sweeped to do pooja...

She is happy, she says very less utensils, and house is clean only akka...
I dont give her coffee/breakfast.(We dont drink coffee ourselves) But give 200rs for main festivals..

Hi, I am in Bangalore since the last 30 years. Rates for house maids has gone up like everything else. So we can't blame them entirely. Only thing from my experience, if we treat them well, we can manage to retain them. Mine is a 4 member family 3 bhk house. My maid has been with me for the last 15 years. Hence her rates may be a little lower than prevailing rates. She does sweeping, mopping, dish washing and washing verandah and outside steps daily. We pay her Rs. 1000 since last month. She was working for 800 for the last 2 years but wanted ab increase which we agreed. I see to it that I don.t burden her with any odd jobs other than for which we have kept her. Big festivals, we give her special preparations we make and also saree blouse etc for Diwali. She takes off at least 4 days amonth to visit her hometown which is out station. Retaining a loyal maid has the advantage that we need not worry whether she will take away something or misbehave. We cannot expect perfection from part time maids but we definitely cannot do without them. I attend to thorough cleaning up etc when the maid has her off days. Hope this helps.
