Sorry for posting this here. Mods ...please feel free to shift after some time.

    SPARROW BABY
I found a little sparrow baby on the ground some time back, when I had gone for a walk. Seems to have fallen from the nest or tried premature flight. I looked around for a nest but couldn't find it.Probably in some thick bushes.I was dark and there was a big tomcat lurking around ,so had to get it home.

It looks like a sparrow baby .Does not have a tail yet.The wings are not fully formed. It can fly up to one foot high.I don't know how old it is.

I have given it some coarsely ground rice and water.
Has any one saved a baby sparrow/bird ever?
I have a really bad record with birds.

Any advice how to take care of it for a few days?
I will try and go to the place I found it in the morning and look for the nest.
I will try and post a pic of the birdie .

Mods....I apologize for the inconvenience .

Give it boiled egg yolk, bread crumbs, worms if you have them. It looks like it's big enough you could keep feeding it until it can fly which is probably in a couple weeks. You might also try some millet. Really important: give it a source of water!!!

Try googleing it. Im sure you'll get benefit. I'm not so sure about the rice you're feeding. Since its just a born types, it will need something softer.

Take a blanket/sheet/newspaper and cover the box 4/5 so it is not so exposed.

It is so cute. Is it sparrow baby ? Does it have yellow beaks.
I guess once it gets wings, you can let it go. :)

We had a sparrow's nest inside our house on the main switch board. I have seen the babies... coming out to learn to fly.. It's mommy flutters its wings to show how to fly. Sometimes due to space crunch some babies fall out. The mommy sparrow flutters around out head to help keep it back in it's nest. If it has to lay eggs.. it will make a different noise. My dad used to peep inside and say that it is going to lay eggs... As their family grew.. so did our family. :)

My Mom used to keep water and some soaked rice for them to eat. They of course fly out to get worms also. We also used to clean it's nest if it gets infested with too many worms and smells. Of course, we could do it only when they go out. We keep the basic structure.. :)
We keep one window open for them to fly out and come in, even if we go out on vacation.

Sorry YM, to digress your post. I am fond of sparrows and looks like their population has dwindled due to the increase in mobile towers.

I did....most info is for really small ones. From what I read....it looks like it is between 8-10 days old.It can fly very short distances....but not properly.

It has a yellow beak VS.It looks like a sparrow baby ...I could be wrong ...but there are quite a few sparrows in that part of the park in thick bushes .
We have plenty in our colony.I get them in my balcony in the morning.I wish they would adopt this one.I will take it back to the park tomorrow to look for the nest or parents...
If I don't find them...then I will get it back.
