Hi, I would like to discuss-the tradition of thamboolam, the things you give to ladies and children when they visit your house for poojas like Varalakshmi vratam and navarathri. Generally we keep one coconut,blouse piece, mirror, comb, turmeric, kumkum, betal leaf and nut, one coin and the prasad. This is tradition. nowadays new style of giving, some small steel plate or plastic containers. Every year mirror, comb, plastic containers etc get accumulated without any uses. Instead why not start giving some craft or hobby things. Such as - stitch kits, blocks for block printing, small kits of fabric painting, screen printing, crochet and knitting kits- so that they can try to learn a new hobby. Instead of giving unusable items as a formality, why not we change things and gift sensible and useful things?
