    Dear everyone,

    This is open for all………

Please share your ideas, tips, suggestions, solutions etc so that everyone is benefitted.

I had many requests from friends and therefore decided to make it a common thread so that each one of us can share what we know…

    My first tip:

If your golu bommais have lost colour or looking dull, you can give them a fresh coat of colour using fabric paints/acrylic paints/metallic pearl paints that are with you. Allow it to try for sometime. You can then decorate the jewellery part using glitter glue like Fevircyl 3 D for instance or anything that dries fast !! If you have kundan stones you can paste them also wherever needed……..I did this last year for some of my bommais and got a lot of appreciation !!

    sudha,
Good start, I myself was searching IL few days back whether some thread like this has been started.
It is a good idea to prepare a special theme for Golu every year. Many people who have the time and interest do this at their homes. Like take any current social topic or any simple theme and prepare a special display related to that. This is quite common in many homes.
I have a one year old kid, so I was just looking up whether any simple themes can be arranged. Previous year, I just had a simple park with trees and animals etc. This year i was thinking of having something related to krishna like janmashtami or ras leela etc.
Please share your ideas on what other displays can be created other than our normal golu bommais.

    A tip from my side:
Many of us have golu sets like dasa avatar, seetha kalyanam, some temple etc. Make small pieces of paper and write a short commentary about the set and paste it behind on the padi. This way, any children or non-tamilian friends coming for the golu can read it and understand the significance.
I m attaching 3 pics of my previous yr golu of park and two sets with small placard (i have just given a heading, you can narrate a short significance).

Thanks Sudha ma for starting this thread.
    my tip would be
for kalasam you can use rice with a hanful of moong dal instead of water
and you can use a full pomegranate with its crown facing upwards instead of a coconut. so on the last day after the golu is kept asleep you can use the rice for preparing pongal the next day and take a fistful and shove it in the rice bin.thanks for providing a platform

Annu, thanks for kickstarting this thread......FIRST !!

Firstly geat golu arrangements at your place with "THEMATIC PHOTOS" which would help people with dolls similar to these......children would love to keep their toys, so good idea !!

Secondly your tip on keeping small chits giving a short explanation (this is in my mind for years now) because if we are busy atleast the invitees would get to read and know the story behind each doll.......

Last but not the least a big thank you for sharing......

Hey u dont stop here with just this one post.......keep coming and pour more ideas as and when you get them !!

Nitya, thanks a lot for your wonderful tip.....

I am sure that many of us when we dont get coconuts, use the pomegranate.
But how to keep........always this confusion arises........thanks for clarifying that doubt firstly !!

Your idea of rice mixed with moong is an excellent suggestion (arisiyum paruppum)..

Once again a big thanks from me.........keep sharing ideas and when you can think of one and let us make it more interesting this year in everyone's house !!
