Massachusetts Ladies - Introduce yourselves here

There is a possibility that I may move from Bangalore to Boston in late Nov/Dec, for my husband's 1yr assignment. His office is in Cambridge & is very close to the Kendall MIT. Since you lived in the same area, I am hoping you can help me with information and tips.
(1) How do I go about finding an apartment? Is it best to work through agents or is it safe to go about it on my own?
(2) Would you be able to recommend any good apartments in/around Cambridge? Perhaps the building you or your other friends lived in?
(3) Is a budget of US$1600 per month unrealistically low or workable? We are looking for a 1 Bedroom+Living Room+Bath, equipped with furniture such as sofas, beds, a TV, etc., a kitchen with the usual Gas range, etc., and facilities such as Heating and an in-house Washing machine,
We are particular to be in a safe neighbourhood....doesn't have to be only Indian brethren.

I have a million other questions. But for now am hoping I will receive guidance on the above.
Any other tips are most welcome.

How are you? As per my knowledge Shrewsbury Green Dr , Shrewsbury commons, Fountainhead Apartments are good and convenient.

Thanks for your reply.We have finalized Flanderhills apartment in Westborough)any idea abt this apt or do you anyone in thsi apt)

Also can you know ,Is there any facility who can pick up the kids from the schools and keep them till evening for my kindergartner or
Any nanny who can come to my home and take care of the kid.
