Hi, How many hours do you use the laptop? Is it true that if we use the laptop for more than 12 hours per day its lifetime decreases?.Any precautions to make my laptop last longer? Sapna
NO.. its not like that...but do remove the charger once the laptop charged 100%... and do not plug-in the charger till it prompts to plug-in. This will really help in maintaining the good health of the battery.
Yes, a laptop (or even a desktop) does slow down over a prolonged period of time. This is more pronounced in computers running under Windows. You can do some things to ensure relatively stable speeds. 1) Do not install unwanted software. Many software load some component into memory at start up, thus slowing down start up and also occupying memory unnecessarily. Over a period of time as you keep installing more software, more memory is used up. Also more free hard disk space does to some extend translate to faster speeds. This is one of the main reasons why we feel that a computer is very fast when we buy it and slows down as more and more software is installed. 2) Do change the settings of rarely used software install to make sure that they don't start up automatically. Normally you can go Options (sometimes sub-menu of Tools) menu and uncheck “Load on start up” or similar option. 3) Do run Disk Defragmenter occasionally (Under Accessories – System Tools). 4) If you are familiar with Windows and other software installation then once every couple of years it is a good idea to format your hard disk (after backing up your data) and reinstalling all software. Believe me it's worth the effort. Your computer will become almost as fast as it was when new once you format and reinstall software. If done properly this does not take more than 5-6 hours depending on the number of additional software you install. To increase your laptop battery life, charge your laptop only when your battery runs low and unplug after the battery is charged. If you are using your laptop mainly as a non-portable device, then remove the battery from the laptop and store in a cool dry place. While storing the battery make sure that it is around 40% charged. Do a charge / discharge a couple of times once in 4-5 months. Your battery will last longer. Hope this helps. Regards PS: There are other things that you can do like disabling services etc, to speed up your computer but should be done only if you are very familiar with Windows working.
