hi got this some where in the net :

In Sanskrit, lemon is translated as "Nimbu phala". According to mythology, once there lived a demon by name NimbAsura. He created havoc on earth by means of a great femine. Sage Agasthya did great penance, contemplating on the Mother to end the demon's misdeeds.

Pleased with the sage's penance, the Mother appeared and killed Nimbasura thus ending the great femine. She brought back vegetation on earth and since then she is worshiped as SHAKHAMBARI (Sanskrit "Shakha" - vegetation). Before dying, the demon gained divine knowledge and prayed the Mother to give him permanent place in her holy feet. The Kindest Mother gave him the boon that henceforth NimbAsura shall adore her in the form of Nimbu phala. Devi ShakhAmbari is also worshiped as Banashankari, the distorted form of Vanashankari. The mula sthana (original place) where the Mother took the form of SHAKHAMBARI is Badami, Karnataka. Around 100 years ago, a temple was built for her in Bangalore and the locality is famous by the name Banashankari

When our desire fulfills we can offer god lemon garland that can be in following numbers 16, 21, 54, 108........

    Dear,
    Thanks for the above story.

Lemon also symbolises destruction of one's enemy.

Lemon garland is special for Sri Durga Devi. Devotees offer the garland in counts of 9, 18, 21 lemons. It is usually offered to Godess Durga in Ragu kaalam (i.e. 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon) on fridays or on Ragu kaalam on tuesdays (3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.)

Also some people light diyas made from cutting a lemon in to two and pouring ghee in both the lemon cups.
Of course, some spiritualists condemn this sort of lighting diya too. They say this is not a right thing to do.

You can offer lemon garlands and attend Raghu kaal puja at Raghu times in Durga temples fr 18 or 21 weeks to fulfill your wishes. Of course one has to beleive that his/her problem will be solved while doing so. Else nothing works.

Now-a-days some people offer to some other Gods/Godesses too. I dont know if it is right/wrong.
    All the best.

Lemon garlands are usually for kali or dura amsam of goddess shakthi. it is said that lemon has cooling effects hence these garlands offered to get her to look at us with shantam.

it is also believed that lemon helps in removing negative energy..

So true tinku. these days you can see vethalai maalai on ganapathy though it is actually done for hanuman. i do not like to think of the wrongs/rights..i only look at it as a person's prayer..

if you visit temples regularly you will be surprised at the way people offer their prayers...
