Ladies, Whenever I lit the vilakku I find good amout of oil on the base after some time. I checked for any holes and nothing is there. I even checked with pouring oil and waiting for some time. Usually I fill little less to the neck of the lamp. Only when the lamp burns for sometime there is leak. Any ideas or remedies for this. Thanks
Don't worry, this is really simple fix. I used to have same problem, until I understood what was happening. The oil at the bottom is not because the Kuthu Vilakku has holes... It's because the oil from the thiri drips on the outside rim (vilimbu) of the Vilakku. Keep the thiri to very close to the inner rim, so the oil can drip inside the oil kulam of the vilakku.
