Why does it always work? I don’t see any daughter in laws cry so easily and then recover so easily. How do you DILs deal with it? I can never tell when my MIL is genuinely crying but all I know is she cries at the right time, people feel sorry for her and then will act like nothing happened. Not even any signs on the face that this woman was sobbing hysterically a few minutes ago. Yet when we DILs sob ( not in front of anyone maybe into our pillows)our eyes go red, cheeks swell and people know you’ve been sobbing the night before.

Is it just about hiding our emotions better?does your mil behave the same? What do u do? I know not all mother in laws behave the same. But I know an aunty who is married to my mums brother. She told me all she has to do is cry and my uncles bends over backwards for her. I wish I could cry on the spot but I have too much self respect to do that.

    1) Using “age” as an excuse
    2) Emotional blackmail
    3) playing the victim
    4) health issues as an excuse
5)Men are not complicated. They do not understand the game plan.Hence they fall prey to all the “acts”.

Point 1 is enough to work the rest of the pointers very easily!!

    Now..When it comes to DIL..
point 1 won’t even work!:) Hence the rest of the pointers which comes as a package wont work!

One needs to wait till they turn atleast 55 in many cases and then one can start the game:)

My mil isn’t even 55 yet...she knew how to do all this at 49. She’s getting worse and worse. Compulsively lying too.

Get on with your life dear. Concentrate on your job and kid.
You are thinking too much about your mil..
    Did your husband call you?

My mil cries irrespective of the place from temple to trash dumping site.
She can cry like Niagara and broken dam. Omg
    Every one takes her side.
I don't cry in front of others or when I'm displeased I get angry.
Being angry she can cry in micromilli seconds.

I keep quiet when she cries else she will cry more create more drama.
I'm tired of it thinking now.
    Why it works
    1) she knows when to pull strings
She never cried when her son or her husband not involved.
    2) to escape whatever she did wrong , to prove she is right by crying
    3) to create sympathy
    4) to divert the situation
    5) emotional blackmail to son
    6) she knows it's pisses me off when she cries.
    So I walk out
    7) manipulation of human tendencies, towards her.
    8) one time she cried to get pampering from her husband.
100000 things I could recollect only few.

Yes! I have also noticed no sign of crying, redness or puffyeyes. Because it's crocodile tears not real tears.
In short because of mil I stopped trusting people who cry in front of others esp in a family gathering or infront family.

Oh yeah can identify with all replies...a couple of things which MILs do during such hysterical crying episodes...
    1. Begging son to put them in old age home ..
    2. Begging God in loud voice to please grant them an early death and take them with Him. Maybe hitting head against wall etc if she is not very matured person..
    3. Saying loudLy , what for am I living ...what reason do I have to live...
    4. Refusing to eat and going on starvation mode till DIL and maybe son and DIL both beg for forgiveness...
5.packing luggage’s in general as if they are being thrown out of the house to go to the streets / railway station / airport As situation demands basically away from the home in a very odd hour maybe early morning or late night..in then process, especially if it’s an apartment complex even neighbours come to know of household drama and causes public embarrassment..
All those self pity strategies make everyone sympathetic towards MIL even if she is at fault..

@Patientone looks like your MIL is not mentally stable. Don't invest time on understanding her behavior. Find something else to focus on. You have a long life ahead. If possible track how much time you think about her on daily basis. You will be alarmed. If possible try counseling or hobby to fill your mind with positive things.

I also feel due to fault of your husband you are directing all your anger against your MIL. You need to understand that your husband is also part of your problem . Be strong and get out of these thoughts. Mind plays so much tricks. Take a break from all this drama and if possible do medidation
