OP, I think if you plan well , you can do a lot in one month. I strongly suggest you to consult an attorney before you go to India, including child custody. I think you have valid reasons to get sole custody of your kid. Good luck

Check out this website, @Rachu123. Depending on where you live, you can find some local resources to help guide you through the process. As much as I remember, your husband has been is violent physically and has financially hurt you. There are other women in this type of situation and these hotlines do everything they can to give you the information you need.

I have talked to some resources, who recommended me to go through these organizations, since the financial burden would be less, and they would have other resources that are geared toward women in terrible circumstances. From what I've noticed from my own situation, I am my own worst enemy, by not reaching out and finding the help I need to leave. Well, now, I'm ready to leave, but it helps that my parents are onboard.

USA is very much lenient towards debts. While they never completely waive off debts, you will have options to pay later. Dont use up all money towards debts. Talk to attorney and see how it can be handled.
