    Hi
My DD completed 7 months, i started giving khichdi (rice+moong dal) but she is not liking it. she spits it out always by chance if she takes something she vomits after few minutes. Can any one please let me know how to make tasty khichdi so that DD likes it.

If she'd spitting it out, it means she doesn't like it but if she's vomiting then there could be a different problem. Maybe she's having trouble digesting it. Did you try blending it smoothly before feeding her?

Couple of things, assuming your child is not lactose intolerant:

    1) Take equal measures of ponni rice and yellow moong dal, lightly roast them on low flame. (Eg, 1/4 cup each)
    2) Cook in pressure cooker with 1/4 measure milk, 3/4 measure water, one pinch turmeric. (If using above measure, totally 1 1/2 cup liquids.
    3) Cook for 10-12 mins.
    4) Heat 1tsp ghee, add pinch of hing, 2-3 fresh curry leaf, one pinch fresh cumin powder. Mix with hot mashed rice mixture. Add little salt to taste.....very little, infants like little less salt in foods.

Hopefully your child likes this, this is how I made for both my kids.

Other than what Topaz said, you may want to add one finely chopped garlic clove in ghee......Try it, it will change the taste of khichdi a lot.......Also you may add carrot.

If you prepare khichdi with a mix of little bit of masoor dal and toovar dal, it will be more healthy.

Just make sure you pressure cook it well. :)

My 11 month old son spits it too. Will try giving him the way you mentioned it. My method is almost the same except that I don't roast it and I add whole cumin seeds to the tadka. Pepper powder too.

I sometimes feel if he sees the color to be yellow he rejects the food. Any kids doing it?

Whole jeera will cause child to spit up, I know both my boys did.....as to using pepper, I would be careful as it can cause upset tummy, which is worse than throwing up!

I tried giving khichdi to DD again but she is not eating it, but she eats if i cook dal and rice seperately. I am doing this, what ever dal (toor/moong with spinach/methi/tomato..) I cook for us/adults , taking upper layer from it when the dal is cooked. Later adding chilli powder for us seperately. Cooking rice seperately for DD and mixing the dal removed for her , she is liking it.
