How important are vacations in a marriage?

I keep editing the pictures taken and update my photos and make collages etc which is a fun after-vacation activity. The latest photos will be on my laptop background and i see it as a new phase.

I remind myself that nature has given us beautiful things around and we should appreciate its beauty and that also works like a hint for me to see the positive side of life....and now....that makes me feel like going for a vacation !!

Very true pman16. The feeling you get after coming back from a good holiday, even if it were just 2 or maximum 3 days, talking about it with friends, it is so intoxicating and you seriously feel more positive about life.

Now the entire life is revolving around my dear daughter. It will be good,refreshing and rejuvenating to switch off from the regular,dull life. I have been longing for a long vacation for a long time. Even though finance is not a problem, planning and taking the time off is needed. I hope we will go in this spring to my long awaited place.

I hope you scoot this year to a fun holiday. The planning sure is a drag and when you are travelling with a child, its double check time. You could probably try 2 or 3 days trips just to get away from it all.

I am in two minds of about the family vacation thing. My husband loves to travel and believes in making those good memories with kids. So we go every year some place for 2 weeks sometimes with inlaws and sometimes just us and kids. When we first got married it was always camping as we could not afford anything else but now its nice hotels without going overboard. He does all the planning and booking but takes suggestions from me.

But I have found that there is always tension just before the leave date and we are even upset with each other mood as we are driving to airport. I take care of all things other than travel plans, kids school notification, mail stop, cat sitting, laundry, medicines yet there is always something to throw both of us off. Then at airports he keeps all our passports/tickets (just because its easier) and we are standing in line and all of a sudden he will jump ahead even though we are in premier perks line and expects me and kids to follow. Invariably there are other couples with kids who we have to sidestep in this process and he gets upset that I did not keep up. I get upset that he has to jump ahead just to get a 3 minute advantage while we could have perfectly well stood in line and not do this. The more he has gone up the ladder the more he has become this go getter, always wanting that extra perk kind of person. Yet when he sees others do the same he calls it cutting and doesn’t mind telling them so. I guess its his type A personality while I am a go with the flow person. This happened quite a bit on my last trip that I dread the thought of airports and lines. We enjoy once we are at the destination but getting there is too nerve wracking. Now I think I rather be home and let everyone else go without me

lol..I see holidays as happy times and you see them sitting under the chair, hammering yourself and drowning..
When you have a husband who does the planning, you should forget all of the studying and math books and enjoy the trip thoroughly, not just for his sake, but for yours too.

Besides why go to a resort? I too hear about all that from my husband's colleagues. We usually book a B&B or hotel close to local transport facilities and just see the places around. We even managed to sleep on a cliff top once in broad daylight, no parasols, swimming pool, fancy chairs or drinks waiting for us..lol

Lol..that sounds just like my own family. My parents fought every time we were getting ready to go on the trip for just the same reasons and now I fight with my husband for it.

Long trips do get tedious at some point. Making short trips, 2 days at a time, more frequently would help better especially with kids. And we kind of noticed that train journeys have always been the most memorable ones in my life.

I also completely agree that kids should have loving memories of these holidays. Well I still remember what we did and where we went from 20 years ago. It creates a new, personal tradition in the family.

Ha Ha....I think I m just too boring a person !!...But I really admire people who enjoy traveling. Infact seeing my husband happy after an exciting trip, gives me a kind of satisfaction that redeems the whole cause of traveling. In the end it doesn't matter where are we going, for how long are we going...for me its just about letting my partner enjoy for a while in the way he believes he wants to, and that makes it worth it!
